YOU DON'T NEED to shout. We can hear you.

Thanks for turning off the caps lock.

As for the answers to your questions, sorry, I don't know - give it an hour or two. Someone will most likely have an answer by then (or at least an intelligent discussion will have formed that will lead to an answer).

Are there blow-off valves for superchargers, I thought that was just a Turbo thing...

The bypass valve is built into the supercharger. Turbochargers have wastegates, superchargers do not. If you want your car to go PSHHHHH between shifts, you will need to get something like this:

Motoring is right. A turbo needs a waste gate, blow-off valve, overboost valve, whatever you want to call it, since the turbo spin is not mechanically connected to the engine in any way. The turbo is driven by the escaping exhaust gases. If a turbo'd engine is running at high RPMs, spinning the turbo rotor very fast, and then the car is taken out of gear and dropped to idle, the turbo rotor is still spinning fast, making boost, but the engine is not moving the high volume of air through the cylinders. Boost pressure then spikes and destructive things happen; unless there is a valve to relieve the excess pressure.

A supercharger is driven off the crank directly; so when the engine slows, the supercharges slows. No risk of an overpressure condition.

By the way, welcome to MCO TZKNUTS! And as Mini2Go pointed out, all caps makes folks think you're shouting. Some will get annoyed.

Cheers,

James

Thanks Mr S for your post. I have always wondered about the true difference between a turbo and a supercharge.
