The car was also corner balanced so the weight was accurate: 2590 lbs w/ 1/4 tank of gas. Only factory option is Sport package.

But here's the details:
"Best of 3 runs ever (not my car) = 0-60 in 6.37, 33 deg F, Quaife, Rogue Intake, Supertrapp 10 discs, 17" Kosei K1, 215/45R17 Kumho Ecsta Supras (taller than stock diameter).

The Quaife definitely gave some serious traction. My first run, I forgot to turn of the ASC/DSC, bogged, and still ran a 6.67. The Quaife almost negates the traction control since it hooks up so well, but the shift 2nd felt the power cut slightly. My second run I spun too much and ran a 6.74.
I'm sure I could go slightly faster, but it's not my car, the Supertrapp is LOUD, and it was 11:30pm on country roads. "

This was with the street tires. I wonder how it would do with the STX wheels/tires --15 x 7 Kosei K1s, 225/50/15 BFG TA-KDs (4.5 lbs lighter per corner)

Thanks for the info. I know the few of us out here that have Supertrapps appreciate the data. After you and Brian did the dyno stuff with an intake, I played some with the seat of the pants testing along with a stop watch and marked off section of roadway.

I went up to 10 discs from 8 and there was a big improvement. Then I went to 12 discs and there was still an improvement, but smaller. I tried 14 discs, but decided after the first run that 14 discs were just too loud for the street whether it made more power or not.

I am going to stay with 12 discs, and just try to use a delicate foot in town. Most of the cops here in Washington will leave you alone as long as you aren't attracting too much attention to yourself. I know cuz I is one.

I might put my Borla back on in the fall after Autox season and run that through the following spring. But, I may end up just getting used to the 'Trapp sound and try and sell the Borla.

I'm going to get my sound meter and measure the db level this weekend. Both inside and outside.

Are you going to take your car to the track or do any autoxing?

I started autoxing last year about 2 months after I got the car -- the car just begged to be driven hard and there is really no place safe to do that on the crowded roads. After a couple autox's I was hooked - and I am still amazed at how hard you can drive the MINI.

I am going to do some AutoX this year. It will be my first time doing it, and it looks like a kick in the pants. My wife wants to try it as well. We are going to wait until this spring/summer. Playing in Western Washington's liquid sunshine is not too much fun. Although I am guessing the rain proabably separates the men from the boys.

What did you end up putting in the transaxle for gearlube after you did the Quaife?

I had the Quaife done at a local transmission shop. The place was highly recommended and did a great job on the install. The Quaife does not quite fit the MINI tranny case after it's all reassembled -- there is rubbing in one area, and this needs to be fixed by taking some material off the inside of the case or off the Quaife or both. All the folks I have corresponded with who have done the Quaife have had this problem.

The tranny has to be filled with a special BMW fluid, that costs about $45/quart, but you can reuse the stuff that's in there. Installation runs from $900 to $1200 depending on where you go. If you do not drive the car hard or fast you don't need a Quaife. But if you do, it allows you to get more of the power on the ground.

I have dreams of installing a Quaif and am not too far from the Washington area. Were you satisfied with the transmission shop's work? If so, what is the shop's name? Also, where is it?

Hi-Tech Transmission in Fairfax. Ask for Tommy. I will also say that Helix can do this installation as well - I know that jlm (John) had his done there along with a lightweight flywheel. If they where closer I might have gone there as they specialize in MINI's.

If you are considering a flywheel do it when you do the Quaife and pay only once for the labor

Thanks, David.

I don't think I would do a flywheel. I'm not sure it's legal for the STX class.
