Drivetrain Installed m7 thermostat.

My carpool buddy has an OBDII scan tool, and I'll see if it's the P104 (engine temp) again within the next couple days...
Ever since I put in the 180* t-stat I get the code p0128, which is a MINI specific code for Coolant Temp Below T-stat regulating temp....but only when it's 60* and below outside. I have MTH also.
Make sure the cooling system is properly bled. There is a bulletin about this causing coolant temp faults.
Wagnbat, I have mth and that may be helping with the codes. I also have the bypass valve tied shut and no codes for that after 4 months. My stock car did get a code for the zip tie trick, so I'm curious how it will react to the t-stat.
Keep us posted on your codes.

I have a m7 thermostat and haven’t thrown any codes b/c of it. I installed it sometime last fall and ran it through the tough winter of the north east. The only issue that I had was the engine not getting up to operating temp. If I was on the highway when it was really cold, it would never get up to temp. When it's warm out it will noticeably operate cooler than stock, just my .02 Hope it helps! -- Johan

As for it heating up any slower, It should get to the opening temp of the t-stat at the same rate as the stock unit. Once the m7 t-stat opens it should maintain, while the stock unit would continue to heat up until it's opening point.

P128
2701 RPMs
71 IAT
178 COOLANT TEMP
61 MPH at the time it went off.
So the coolant temp is 178, which is obviously right next to 180 which I believe the M7 should keep it at... This is the same temp I was getting last week when I was riding around with John Behe in my car with an OBDII hooked up.
The codes are a bit more sporadic now... During the winter, I couldn't go a day without them coming on, and now they come on almost randomly every couple days.

The local mini service guy in town says that the temp " gauge " actually only has 3 possitions. Cold , ok, and way too hot. I is not much more than a idiot light which is why I went to a autometer temp gauge to get the true story.

I did get the p0128 code the other day, It was 40*f out. The next day it was 45*f and no code.
I did go to the drags yesterday and put in a few gallons of 100. I drove around for a while, but unlike usual there was no noticeable power increase. Infact the car felt a little sluggish. I'm back on 91 and I have to say it feels better.
Maybe too cold out? The lower coolant temps seem to be making a difference.

I don't know which mod is the most beneficial, the missing pre cat or the t-stat. Either way, it has never felt better.
