Reliable for Daily Driver?

19% Alta Supercharge Pully
?4% Alta Crank Pully?
5% Alta Alternator Pully
M7 or Alta Intercooler.
440cc Injectors
M7 Supercharger port polish.
62mm Throtle body
Promini Intake
Alta Exhaust
Spark plugs and wires.
? Header
? Tuning.

The decision is still out on the Crank pully, because alot of my friends that have pullys on the m3's and use a crank pully end up running into problems. Anyways, i was wondering what your guy's opinion is on this set up for Daily Drivin/weekend track. Is it gunna still be reliable? Am i going to overboard? Also any of your help on a good header and im not sure about tuning something ive been trying to find, but cant. Anyways thanks alot for your guys help/opinions its greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Koya

this is just my opinion, but if you track your car you are pushing the limits, and when you push limits, things tend to break. Also, there should be no question mark next to "tuning" on your list if you are set on 19% pulley and 440cc injectors. You really need to tuning to optimize that setup. People have been pretty happy with the GIAC tuning software with 19% and injectors. You might want to give Eric at Helix a call and he'll point you in the right direction if you are seriously considering a 19% pulley.

PS you may want to reconsider a 4% crank pulley with the 19% SC pulley. I haven't heard too many results with this setup, but again, if reliability is a concern you may be pushing the envelope a bit there. just my 0.02.

From my readings you might want to consider a larger Intercooler as well. I saw some dyno testing a while ago that showed the heat create with the 19+4% combo made tons of heat and hurt the power creating.

thanks for the replys guys. I see where your going with all this, i know the crank pully was a little risky. Tuning of course i need tuning, its just i don't know whats the best route to take. Mdsbrian do you have any suggestions for a larger i/c? This car on a real level may only see the track once or twice a month if that. I'm gunna be pritty busy with college so i don't know how much time i will be able to have taking it out to the track. However, it will be drivin daily, and mabe a few little highway runs with the friends am i still gunna be pushin the limits? Any suggestions on how to take it down a notch back to reliable, but yet quick?

DTMINI, the whole larger IC debate is big right now on the forum with M7 and Alta coming out with new intercoolers. So please stay tuned and read along. But in the past the most popular to go with are the Alta IC, GRS IC and Forged. All are big ticket items. I myself have the GRS and I am very happy with it. But people are developing newer and better ones all the time trying to push the envelope.

As a college student like yourself please make sure to check with the mods you plan and realize that the installation costs can be many times what some of these small parts cost. (what a run-on sentence haha)

This is very true, but if you are a decent mechanic most of that looks like DIYable stuff. But you have to be 100% sure you do it right or no matter what install you do won't be reliable. If you are going to do a crank pulley I'd say go with a 2%(been issues with the 0% lightweight), but your setup will be pushing the limits. For reliabity I'd go with just a 15%, but you want more power, so 19% is what you are looking at after 15% I hear that on the trck there becimes questions of oil temps rising as time goes on pushing the limit, a 19% would probably be fine for street use. Maybe drop the crank pullet and go with the MTH sowftware setup for your list of mods and you should have it more reliable and may even see high hp gains just from getting the computer right.

Man, great stuff here, thanks for the post guys! Yeah I know my way around cars fairly well and plus I have close friends who own performance shops and I work at Infiniti so all those resorses are avalible for free. So mabe a 17% with a 5% alternator pully and just toss out the crank pully or go with the 2%?

Thanks again

Here's a thought...

Ditch the TMIC, the Throttle body, crank pully and the exhaust. Get a one-ball mod to the stock exhaust, and take all that money saved and get the Webb head with cam. You'll be out about the same $, and really open up the motor so that when you do want to spend more, the engine can take advantage of it.

Without the flow of the improved head, you won't see the benefits available from the rest of the stuff.

19%+4% will be terrible for track use IMO.....

i think 17% sc pulley + 2% crank pulley, if you really want a crank pulley, that is. Wouldn't go for alta exhaust, i'd get the oneball mod (i already have). I'd get Alta CAI or WMS CAI instead of the promini. Throttle body might be a good idea if you're running a small pulley combo to allow more air from the intake to be jammed in to the s/charger Definately get an ECU remap

Spend some money on a rear swaybar and some good tires

daily driver

My 04 MCS has more than 36K on it. I bought it used, put more than 20K on it in a year and I drive the @#$%#$% out of it every day. The only trouble I've ever had was an inop rear window washer. Turned out to be a plugged nozzle which my dealer fixed by replacing everything he thought would ever give me trouble again (no charge). My dealer was great. He kept the car over night, gave me an 06 MCS to drive and did the upcoming scheduled maintnance eventhough it was about 800 miles short of the required miles.

Not only would I feel good about buying another Mini, I would feel good about buying one for my daughter for her daily driver.

My advice; buy it, drive it, modify it and get a thrill you'll never have with anything else that the average person can afford or buy leagally.

uhh yea kind of random, but okay newaz back to the point. What do you guys think of a Unichip tuning with a 17% pully and a 5% alternator pully? I'm thinking of mabe goin with minimal tuning and go all out on the suspention.

You'll be very happy.

The 17% would be good. Don't know if you need th altenator pully. It's something that works as hard as it needs to make the amperage required. The UniChip will do fine, and you'll get the best with a dyno tune for your car.

What do you want to do for suspension?
