I just received my JCW air intake kit ordered from a MINI dealer. I'm not sure if it is the correct part for my 05 Cooper S (01/05 production date). From some of the reading I've done I was under the impression that there was a electrical wire that had to be spliced in to the wiring harness. The only connection that it has on it is the vacuum connection. The part number is 13 72 0 395 132 on the one I received. If any one can tell me that this is the correct JCW air intake for my Cooper S I'd appreciate it!

 

I checked the JCW air box on realoem.com for your production date they show a part # of 13 72 0 391 513. You might want to call your dealer or Classic MINI and check both numbers.

 

The electrical connections mostly center around a small box mounted to the replacement cowl partition that control the operation of the intake flap. Three individual wires plus one pair with a connector attached come from this little control module. One is a ground, one a power wire (red) and one that connects to the 'tach signal' at the ECU (yellow). The connector fastens to a solenoid mounted on the upper housing of the JCW airbox which controls the vacuum source that opens and closes the flap via the diaphragm on top.

Make sure that your package included the cowl partition (this is just as important a part as the airbox itself) and the partition has the module mounted to it.

 

The air intake I received does not have a replacement cowl hense the missing electrical connection. Thanks for your responses and help. I'll be getting in touch with the dealer to see why they would not ship me the whole kit.
