Until Supersprint gets here, there appear to be three header-cat units available for the 'S'. There's the London Stainless from Mini Motorsport, the Quicksilver system from Mini Madness, and the 4 into 2 into 1 from Mini Mania. All three units are stainless steel, include a metallic cat and before and after O2 ports. The Quicksilver and London Stainless units are about $1300, while the Mini Mania unit is $750. That's a really big price difference! The $750 figure is more like what we might expect to pay for similar equipment for our rice rockets--maybe a DC Sports SS Header and a Random cat. Are the London and Quicksilver units really worth nearly twice as much? Are there any dyno tests of the Mini Mania unit?

Rocketspeed,

I will have the Mania header here with cat later this week. I plan to do a full eval on it - install, fit & finish, dyno, etc. I'll let you know how it fares.

The cost of the London Stainless is due to a couple of things: it comes from the UK, the cat is expensive, the quality of the material is very expensive.

If the Mania header works well, I will carry that one as well. I think the more options available the better!

I thought the one from London Stainless was the same as the Quicksilver? Am I totally wrong? They look the same.

jlm,

No issues yet with either of the cat headers.

I will be doing the dyno of the Mania header on Monday.

Like Russ said, London Stainless makes Quicksilver - they are one and the same.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Randy

I've always wondered, why don't headers straight from the factory come flowing at their full potential? Does it affect emissions drastically? Oh yeah, and actually replacing the headers must take many hours of labor as well, right?

What are the relative benefits of a 4-2-1 vs a 4-1 header?

don't quote me on it but I believe a 4-1 header will give you better top end hp but a 4-2-1 header will give you better low end torque inprovements.

Back to the subject, Turner Motorsports lists the Supersprint 4-2-1 for $650. I didn't see that on your list.

I have the maina Header with the cat,and the Magnaflow, and it was not bad at all. i did do some port matching on the header to the head just so everthing flowed nice , and performane was noticable in the uper to mid range ,but install was a breeze and a vey nice product. I dont see spending the extra $$$ for the other system's since this one seemed to be top notched, talk with steve at Mini Maina hell set you right, very nice guy.

Randy do you have the milltek haeder available? Also the longer primaries help top or bottom end?

No I don't have the milltek header - it's a UK thing. It does look remarkably similar to the London Stainless though, and I would guess the additional cost would rear its ugly head in the form of shipping. I'll try to get in touch with them.

The longer primaries should make better top end power, but I could swear that the Mania header makes more top end power and the London Stainless makes more low end power - weird. I'll let you know for sure when I can get to the dyno again - we had a little snow here in Denver.

Randy, London Stainless is one of the UK distributors for Milltek. http://milltek.co.uk/ukstock.html it's two rows down, one column over....

You got a little snow in Denver? I heard it was just scattered flurries
