Drivetrain Supercharger Pulley
Question for you guys: If the 15% reduction supercharger pulley is a fairly reliable mod and the Getrag, BMW and Eaton people don't forsee any problems, why wouldn't MINI put a slightly smaller pulley in there to begin with and give us an extra 15 horses or so when it wouldn't cost them any more to do it?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Fuel efficiency, for one.
I have ready SEVERAL places that the boost is actually fairly low, and that the stock components should bea ble to handle a higher boost easily. As for the Getrag, it is good for upwards of 220hp, from what Iunderstand. It was designed specifically to handle future higher powered models and modifications, as several tuners (not just JCW) were eyed during production planning.

There's some pretty detailed info over on MINI2 about the Works upgrade for the S and lo and behold, the pulley is smaller than the current stock one. By about 15%. Go figure.

Thanks guys. That makes a lot of sense. Morales - is that what they mean when they say the JCW edition will have a NEW SUPERCHARGER? Are they just talking about a smaller pulley???

Greatgro,
If they gave us too much power from the start, it wouldn't be as easy to come out with a new "hot rod" model, now would it?
The JCW kit does port the charger as well as use the 15% pulley from what I've been told.
Hope that helps!

HAS ANYONE DONE FURTHER TESTS
mpg and dyno tests with the reduced pulley would be very interesting.I'm considering the throttle body and replacement smaller pulley for my mcs;but a serious loss in milage wouldn't be worht it.

Mike,
I have done dyno and mileage tests (as of the last tankful).
The mileage hasn't depreciated at all form my prepulley days - and of course there are many variables. If it were significant, the change in MPG would have been obvious.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
