How much do you want to spend? General concensus is to start with an intake, Rogue/Mini MAdness being the winner right now and then move to exahust and then a supercharger reduction pulley. The intake ($240) is around 8hp, exhaust ($675) is around 12 or so depending on the model and the pulley ($200 or so plus several hours of labour to install) is around 20 or so. From there you can do a high flow exhaust manifold ($1300) and then there's ECU tuning on top of that. However as has been mentioned several times you can't just add all this up and say you've gained 40hp at the wheels it doesn't work like that.

There are lots of tips in this forum so I would advise you read them.

Cheers,

Paul

I agree Paulmon.

But if you want just one thing that's going to make the "best speed gain" as in your thread title, well nothing beats nitrous for that.

I'm with Paul - Intake first ($240) - most horsepower for the buck and easy (and free!) installation. Exhaust ($600-800) would be next because it's a cheap install and it's still a bolt-on mod so it SHOULDN'T affect either the warranty or reliability. The intake and exhaust could give you 15-18hp. Third - the pulley sounds VERY APPEALING. At only $200 and maybe $400 or less to install - 20hp for $600 sounds like a super deal. Plus from my understanding, a smaller pulley would make more boost sooner - thus giving us more POWER at LOWER RPMS which we are all looking for. Also, from what I understand, the supercharger isn't working hard unless you accelerate hard so it would be a mod that only increases performance when you need it which is pretty cool also. I WOULD THINK that intake + exhaust + Pulley MIGHT give you 25-27 horses which would bring you around the 190 area. Not too shabby. If you have a little more to spend I would think a good ECU upgrade down the road optimized specifically for your mods should be able to add that finally 10 horses to get you to 200. The car should also be much more responsive (and sound great!) with all of these mods as well.

This is from Mini-madness:

"Performance Package - MINI Cooper S
Weight: 40.0 lbs
List Price: $1,625.00

Our MINI Cooper S Stage 1 Performance Package saves you 15% over buying these items individually. These upgrades will increase your MINI Cooper S to a reliable 200 HP
"

Not bad for $1,625 if you want to install it yourself.

This is a great deal on a good package, but the 200hp just isn't realistic.

Here are the prices and how I got to 200 HP.

Madness/Rogue intake $239
Magnaflow exhaust $599
15% pulley $200
London Stainless header with cat $1300
Throttle body $399

Seat of the pants improvement - priceless.

I have since done the Superchips/Graham Goode Racing software, but was not quite impressed wiht it, so I'm still working on a solution. I now have around 208 hp at the flywheel (when the car is at operating temperature).

I think you may still be able to get to 200 without the header - but I'll be doing more testing to determine that (that would significantly reduce the cost, and keep the package under $2000).

Let me know if you have any other questions.
