I don't know if Randy is around so......
I know he likes the Nology....but for
the $$$$ I'd go with the Magnecors and
Randy has them as well as Nology.

That's why I went with the Mag's - yeah, I took the red ones ...
They didn't make 20 hp or anything but there is a perception of
being smoother, particularly at lower RPM's ...

The stock plugs are fine ... I don't think changing to a different brand or design or different metal tip would make the difference .... brand loyality is a powerful thing but MINI put a good one in as std. equip. IMHO ...

I've heard that although the engine runs smoother that there is actually some Hp/torque LOSS by installing them. Any claimed HP gains have never been proven by independant/unbiased testers. This goes for other cars as well.

From my research, here's what you're paying for:
1. Cool looks in the engine compartment
2. Smoother engine idle.
3. Mild loss of power

Not worth it for me...

... I think there may be a hp loss at the peak (what is that? 6000rpm?) but there is a 'fattening' of the curve - more at the midrange - where most of us spend our time; day-to-day cruising around 3k-4k as we fight through rush hour is where we need the gains ... but, yes, blasting free of the pack with higher rpm's is fun too - don't want to sacrifice too much up there

SMG - don't use the search window at the top right of the screen. It does not search the forums! Click on the word 'search' to the right of the drop-down menu that says the name of the forum you're currently in. I did a search for magnecor (make sure you spell it correctly, too) and got a long list of threads.

I've got the red Magnecors, and the one difference that I noticed was that they eliminated an uneven idle thing that my car sometimes did - it would idle steadily at one rpm (something around 1100, I think), and every 5-10 seconds or so, would drop down slightly and come back up. Doesn't do that any more.

Don't just search here. I did research in other car forums (different Make and Models of autos). It kinds sounds like religious banter. No one can prove on a dyno any increase other than the manufacturers. When independants check them, they notice no or a little loss in HP. So you can listen to the teenager's "seat-o-pants" dyno (aka butt dyno) results and associated placebo effects, or you can take it from unbiased people's testing. If you're after smoother idle and cool looks. go get them. Looking for performance increase...hmmm...

I'm not sure, but from the list of stereo equipment you have, I would guess the alternator is having a tough time keeping up with the voltage/amperage requirements at idle.

The alternator is driven off of the engine, so with an increase in RPM, the alternator is capable of producing more power. It is regulated by the voltage "regulator" which keeps it from producing too much.

If the battery light is triggered by a low voltage condition, you may see it at idle when the power available from the alternator is at its lowest. The wires may have been enough to send it over the edge.

As long as it is just a flicker - as in when the idle drops down a bit when coming to a stop - I wouldn't worry about it. If it's steady, it may be time for you to research a higher output alternator to run that really cool sound system.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I used Magnacore wires on my 914 and they made a slight difference in my autocross times. You might check the report in Grassroots Motorsports mag. They did a great test on products for their autocross MC that included dyno testing each product independently.
Good Luck

anyone out there Install these Nology wires on a Cooper S? If so where are you attaching the grounding straps to each of the wires?

Thanks

Use the rear intercooler mount bolts - not the ones that keep the plastic cover on, but the bolts that go into the block that hold the attachments for the plactic cover bolts.

1&2 go to the pax side, 3&4 go to the driver side.

Feel free to call me if you need help.
