Exhaust System

I was checking MINI2.COM and they have an interesting thread about backpressure psi's of the exhaust systems including stock one. They have tested stock and scorpion exhaust system so far and it looks like stock system has a lower backpressure psi than aftermarket.

My question is, is it necessary to get an exhaust system in order to get optimum power from MCS?

I have read what they wrote about exhaust system, but it's for normal passenger cars not for a car than had been tuned for performance like MCS.

Thanks

Randy Webb on the latest Whiteroofradio.com podcast stated that all the testing for his new exhaust system showed that the MINI works best with as large a system as possible. His system is going to be 3". Because of the forced induction, largest is best. But then you get into noise issues. So a careful balance needs to be met.

This car has been out for 5 years, still no one knows which is best

I was talking with Volker couple weeks ago and he stated that, stock system is much better than some of the aftermarkets. Actually, if you read the thread in MINI2.COM stock system has 2.5" pipes where Scorpion has 2.25". I guess BMW knew what they been doing.

My concern is, I have every possible bolt on part plus some other stuff but the exhaust system. So is it gonna effect my performance? If yes, how much?

PM or email Randy Webb. He has been doing a lot of testing on his new system.
