Drivetrain oil temps slowly rising...
oil temps slowly rising...
What might cause oil temps to slowly creep up? I'm following a stock guage, part of the Chrono package. Oil temps are definately 20 degrees higher based upon how the guage divideds up, and, where the needle resolutly hung out all last winter.
So, not exactly science, but a change nonetheless.

Michael, I tend to hover right around 200F during my commute, and around 210 or so with a few minutes of spirted driving. It's been fairly consistent for me in these cooler days...
How's your oil pressure? Might you be a little low on oil? I believe you just did an oil change though as I recall a thread where you had some difficulty with the filter swap (you're not alone). Heck, maybe something is impeding the flow a bit... Radiator too full of bugs?
And as the previous poster said... additional mods from last winter should be scrutinized to see if that might be the culprit.

Oil Temp
How is your engine temp. If the water temp is up the oil temp will go up.
The stock MCS has a water to oil cooler, and a thermostat. You don't want the oil too cold, so the thermostat regulates how much goes through the cooler.

Forgot about this thread...who started this?
The water temps appear to remain constant. In reality, this is a seat of the pants observation.
Tony, I periodically clean the IC and radiator - very tedious! The car is a tad snappier after, but oil temps remain steady but somewhat elevated. Perhaps a coolant flush...maybe check the oil cooler thermostat...clean the inside of the IC - not been done yet and I have 47,000 miles on the beast so far.
No additional mods. A simple 05 JCW.
