Black specs out exhaust mean bad CAT?

This past Saturday while my car was on the Dyno the manager of the shop said something interesting to me.

"You have black specs coming out your exhaust and it smells like eggs. Your Cat isn't going to last like that. You really need to get a high flow CAT"

Is there anything to this? My car has smelled a little odd since then when its warm.

No, he was more like being nice and mentioning that I would probaly gain about 10more hp. Which is probaly true but I don't need more hp or to spend more $.

My first sign of the Miltek's cat going south was pieces of it's guts (small corrugated metal) scattered few feet from my exhaust tip No smell that I recall. Stratmosphere was very professional about replacing the header pronto

I do recall commenting on an odd smell at the Summit Point Raceway event... The instructors there were quick to let me know that it was the smell of breaking, and not of clutching or exhaust, because bad clutching had a more oily smell, and a bad exhaust smells like rotten eggs.

Just saying I've heard it before, but I've no clue if it's true or not.

Would have been nice of him to show you the specks shooting out the back tho, eh?

It would of been nice to see anything that did fly out.

Speaking with some folks offline they mentioned the egg smell maybe caused by the winter gas. I think I will leave it alone as I have not smelled the smell again and it seemed to only happen when the engine was pushed to its limits.

Well, you said you do track the car occasionally, and the manager guy mentioned the possibility of the cat. It would probably be in your best interests to research further, unless you're not going to be pushing it anymore.

Thank you for the reading Will Maybe I need to run the car hard on my way to the dealer to see what they think in person.

I wonder if there is a way to visually inspect that the cat is bad.

One of the methods in those links (that I personally wouldn't recommend), is to run the car hard, and see if the cat is 'red hot'.

maybe it's your exhaust baffles?
Have someone rev your car and see if you see anything flying in the back..
I'd also check the plugs.
