Driving shoes...

Well I know this is not the right place for this but I'm sure there is no correct place for this :P.

I was thinking about asking for a pair of driving shoes for christmas . Anyone know a good pair? I have no idea what to look for but a nice light shoe would be sweet

Great question

And as a road racer my self, I always had a soft spot for cool looking, comfortable race shoes. I tried and used Momo, Sparco and Alpinestar
and they all kindof suck when you walk in them, and in all reality to narrow
for sedan racing (great in Formula racing). So my recomendation will be
the great shoes from Piloti, fantastic quality, comfortable to walk in all day
and they look totally fab.....

Piloti all day long man... cheapest i've found online is www.minituner.com look under the link for "cool stuff". I should have my Monza's any day now (sent back the Ralleye... it was too tall for me).

There a particular model of them you recommend higher than the others?

I have a pair of the Piloti Monaco's and think they are great. As comfortable as your favorite pair of sneakers. . .

Unfortunately, I decided that they were my favorite pair of sneakers and have worn down the soles!

Another popular option is a nice pair of wrestling shoes.

I myself went with this option.....http://www.walkerswarehouse.com/stor...ry_Code=MS0204 http://www.sierratradingpost.com/pro...ept_id=L2~3184

Very comfortable and you can walk in them for quite awhile w/o discomfort.

Here's another vote for Piloti Monaco's. I wear mine daily and the are comfortable for all around wear while providing excellent pedal feel and grip.

Another vote for Piloti's

I must echo the positive comments regarding Piloti's. I've owned 4 pairs over a number of years. My favorites have tended to be the Monaco's (2 pair). I've worn them so much the soles are shot--that's not a slam on the durability, I just wear them ALOT. I've also got a pair of the newer released G16's which are nice as well.

Pilotis are great. I picked up a pair at the Monterey Historics (they had a big booth there) and I'm so happy I did. Highly recommended.

Pilotis are a great combination of driver shoe and walk around. They were my chosen mode of transportation at this years SEMA and when you walk that far you want the perfect shoe. I aslo have a pair of Speedwell racing boots which are suprisingly good to walk around in but are a bit more " track " than might be wanted. The monaco by piloti is a really good deal and should be just a bit over $100 and come in several colors. I got the grey and black and it wasn't until my wife accused me of being a little nutty going out and bying shoes to match the car that I realized that they did match

I had a pair of Pilotis some time ago and was not satisfied with the wear of them outside of the car. They lasted about a year before the inside soles were just about wore out. I have had much better luck with "non_racing" shoes for casual walking around in.

I loved the way the Pilotis fit tho. And for a strictly driving shoe it is the best value out there.

I got myself some Simpsons. I was going to buy them on ebay, but then I noticed that the company was in New Braunfels, right down the road from home. I drove over there and bought a pair. I love driving with them and believe it or not, they really make a difference especially during our spirited runs.

Piloti runs true to size. You won't find your size too snug or too roomy. They're as close to perfect as a shoe can be!

Try these as a daily wear

I got these at Kohl's. They are on sale for 14.99 right now. I am sure there are better shoes. I just got these as a daily wear shoe.
I am looking at the Piloti or Oakley for serious driving.

Thanks for starting this post. I totally forgot that I want some driving shoes. I found the shoes that I want. They're the Puma's, but the Ferrari ones. I think those are hot. Plus it doesn't hurt that I am a Ferrari F1 fan. Thanks again for reminding me guys. I can always count on my MINI community to keep me on track!

OOooooh... SHOES!

I was SO prepare for the old NAM bait & switch. You know, thread re: SHOES means thread re: brake shoes (or in NAM parlance, "break shoes" ).

But this is the real deal, complete with links! Another reason to add to the collection. Thanks, FlynHawaiian!

My $.02 (the "cents" sign being no longer available.. )... any shoe with a greater than 2" heel just wasn't made for real driving! So stay away from the stilettos if you're planning on driving for fun, or for any real distance.
