Pulley Install In Miami

Hi all, just recently got my Alta 19% Pulley. I was wondering if there is anyone in the Miami area that could install a pulley for a reasonable price, or help me install the pulley. I think it's ridiculous to be paying 200+ dollars for an install that takes most people an hour, hour and a half. Thanks.

I get all my work done by a good friend and Minis of Miami member, Luis Sanchez, at his shop, Precision Autowerks. He's a great guy and a very thorough mechanic, but not sure of his prices [can't think of the rate]. His email is pawmotorsport [at] bellsouth [dot] net. His shop number is 305 470-9338.

One thing I'll add: I could do my own work, but I believe strongly in him and his work. Luis is the best installer who I have ever met. He has installed a P&P head, intake manifold, supercharger, reduction pulley, intake, plugs and injectors, crank pulley, springs, sway bar, and a colder thermostat in my car, amongst other things. I have had absolutely NO problems with any of the above, and because of this I give him all of my work. My car is important to me, and I won't let just anyone touch it.

Good luck either way, with the install! You'll love the part !

Luis` shop charges $210 for the install, said it would take 3 hours. I know the install takes most experienced people about 1 hour, i think it´s ridiculous to pay $210 for the install.

BTW, autoxguy305, it´s alright, i hope that turbo kit is coming along nicely, you better take me for a ride when you`re done. I get back from my trip sunday, november 27, my car is gonna be getting new brakes and the clutch checked out that morning. I`ll give you a call when the car is ready and see if you`re free.

Thanks.

I used www.myminiparts.com in pompano beach. There is a Redline shop next door and he can coordinate your install. These guys know what their doing and it took two hours for my car.

I took a quick look at Randy Webb's site. For his pulley parties, he charges 400 installed for a pulley. That is around 280 for labor. fyi...

Yea but with Randy you get THE guy who not only knows what’s he’s doing but is the father of pulley swaps and gives a 2 yr. 24,000 mile warranty. Cheap insurance in my mind.

I agree, but the price is cheaper AND I'll bet my money any day that Luis is just as good of an installer, if not better. Wish you could meet this guy... his work is immaculate.

I’m not saying that he’s not, probably is. The point is you can either do it yourself (if you can), get a low ball price and hope for the best or take it to some one who is more expensive but knows what there doing and backs up their work.

Like every time I have needed to go to the dentist and then get the bill, I say WOW if only I could have done the work or gotten some one cheaper NOT. You get the point. I do all of the work on my car that I feel I can do but am smart enough to know what I don’t want to attempt, for times like that I look to the pros and figure the cost of the part and install is the cost of the mod. You don’t need to get a SC pulley but if you do I would say do it right and you won’t be regretting it later.

There is no one in Florida who I've ever met to offer guarantees on parts. I'm sure they'll guarantee workmanship... Anyways, I completely agree with having the intricate stuff done by someone competent and who actually cares about your car. That's the most important thing to me.

I agree with you about the worksmanship and having warranty on the install. All i´m saying is that if the ongoing rate is $70 per hour, the usual install now takes between 1 hour and 1 hour and 30 min, the install cost should be close to the labor rates. Not 3-4 times the labor rate... Maybe it´s just me, after all, I´m 17 and don´t have a job therefore i don´t have a steady income, which makes it hard for me to buy stuff for my car and get it installed so i always look for the cheap way out.. lolol

I completely understand that one, believe me I do. I'm 23, but I have no income as I'm still in school and have no free time..... Installs do cost a ton. In fact, they cost more than pulleys. It seems crazy, but that's the unfortunate truth. If I had free time, I would do my own installs on many things. But, I'd need the time, not to mention special tools like pulley pullers, shock compressors, etc at my whim, and right now I don't. The reason I quoted Webb's fees is that, if you do the math, he charges for three hours worth of work, too. I think that 2 hours of work is a realistic _minimum_, not 1, sadly.

If you feel somewhat capable and you have a friend or two who know what they're doing and can help, by all means try it yourself. It's damn fun, I admit. You just have to be willing to accept mistakes, to possibly pay anyways to fix errors, etc.

Best of luck with it either way! If I knew someone else who could do it cheaper, I would tell you for sure. But, I only know a few people down there. Hope to see you around Miami!

Peter from MyMini will stand behind any parts he sells if you allow him to coordinate the install. He has two places near his shop and will be doing his own work shortly. If its apparent that its part failure no problem. Now don't expect him to back-up a part that some do-it-yourself screwed up the install.

I got a pulley plus install for 325.00

I was able to hang out while they did. There is alot to disconnect to be able to get the engine up to access the pulley. Then there are the special tools to remove the pulley, Once done, drop motor back down in place and hook eveything back in place.

I had it on for several months, no problems and last time there the mechanic came over from next door to inspect my belt to ensure things were they way they should be.

While mechanically inclined, this is one mod I would let a competent shop (mechanic and tools) do but thats me.

Well, 129 for a pulley and 210 for an install is 339. Yes, that's about 20 more, but 20 isn't so much to me. I actually know the guy at MyMini in passing. Really nice guy. But, as you said, he doesn't do his installs. Redline and some other shop do. I don't have any experience with either. They may be very good. But, I can only speak from my experience, and Luis, a good friend of mine and a popular Minis of Miami member, has always done well by me. He got me into racing, in fact. I do recommend him highly, and I believe that if you ask him to warranty his work, he will. I don't know, though, so I can only suggest that you call him and see. Good luck!

While I don't know Luis, I think its great that we have two alternatives in Miami. I look forward to going to his shop one day. Peter coordinated my install with redline and they did a good job, just so you know. and since next door to peter its conviniente.

FWIW, I'm a cheap SOB (so I'll install my own pulley!) but what they're asking is not unreasonable. You're paying for experience, not just the install. Sure, the folks who know what they're doing can do it faster (and probably better), but why should you get a discount because they're good at what they do?

Alternatively, if their time is not worth $210 to you, go get a pulley puller (they did), a few floor jacks and use the step by step instructions (kindly provided by Randy) and do it yourself. Or take the instructions to your favorite mechanic. Maybe he can do it in an hour. Maybe not. Are you willing to take that risk?
