It's a custom made exhaust made by some Japanese company.

Here are a few pics ofthe " unobtanium " units The frist two are of the left one and the last two are of the one on the passenger side. The unit is the black tube like item with the silver bolts securing it to the chassis. You need to pop the hood on a convertable to really see what is going on. The last pic is of the titanium exhaust on the wall at SEMA . BEAUTIFUL construction.

Blakc,

The company is Coast to Coast USA Performance. They have a website that is currently under construction. Said they will be open for retail customers within the next month. They installed the exhaust that is now on ebay on my car. They took a bunch of pictures and recorded a video and a few audio clips. Then the exhaust was taken off. They have asked me if I would use my car to help them dyno some of their products. I believe the titanium exhaust may be on their list. But for now the exhaust is off my car.

that exhaust in maxmini's post looks a lot like those Dixxis Japan ones that Rogue sells for the M3. they are hand-made in Japan to order, beautiful workmanship and sound, but very pricey $$$$.

Less than 3 days left for the auction. Is there really no market for a titanium exhaust in the MINI community?

Why are you so involved if it is just a company down the road?

An exhaust change or upgrade is done for at least one of three reasons, generally: performance gain (including weight loss), visual appearance and sound preference.

- I don't think this system comes with any hp or torque deltas, but a weight figure is provided (22 lbs). This is not even 10 pounds lighter than the popular Militek, at a fraction of the cost...

- For those who want the Ti look, simply going with a Ti tip will be seen as more desirable as they can choose the tip type, and save loads of money doing so...

- I didn't notice sound files, but if they are there, they would need to be very unique and compelling as the MINI already has many exhaust sounds to choose from, again at much less cost...

We're talking a $20k dollar car (MSRP) here, and for the price asked, such a system would need to deliver big-time, in at least one, if not all of the above categories...

Tony this is a excellant group of thoughts and was exactly what we told that company at the SEMA show. Their reply was that they had sold out their first run of ten sets in Taiwan. We tried

maxmini Would we expect them to say any less?

I looked up costs of Ti tubing from a few wholesalers & the price was astronomical. A freind in the bike industry told me he can pay up to $500 USD for a 4' section of pipe 1/16" wall thickness, 2-3/8" dia I/D. And he's buying 1000's of ft. at a time! He commented that Ti prices have gone through the roof over the past year... That same section of tube cost him only $300 & change 9 months ago.

Unless a BIG mnfr. like Magnaflow comes to the table with a Ti exhaust for the MCS we're looking at super-high $, low-volume production.

There's a market for this, but at the moment its very small. Maybe the next gen MINI's turbo exhaust will lend itself better to Ti?

Comments on the various Ti cat-back's shown: Too many bends. I don't see how either could out-perform a Miltek or Magnaflow.

The Simpsons Guy? Was that a tough negotiation?

I was going to use a Burns muflfler on that project exhaust that we built.

How about the advantage of better heat dispersion? Ti is really good at this aspect, especially for Mini Cooper S and heavy modified ones, exhaust temp is scary high.

Got any other photos? This is the first Ti header for a MINI I've heard of/seen. Would like to get a look at the whole thing.
