Thanks Randy. Selection for Ti mufflers and resonators is pretty skimpy as compared to ss, so it seems that there is not a good unit to choose from... so they use 4, plus a resonator. Really defeats the purpose...

I have one Borla Turbo muffler on a straight catback, and the sound is not overly loud. I actually recently confirmed this with Randy Webb who has heard mine a couple of times now. In his words, not as loud as a Magnaflow or the Borla Race/Sport, but close. The muffler selection in Ti is obviously lacking, or they didn't do their homework to find a better option...

As far as amount of mufflers, they are on there to keep it from being overly loud. Even with 4 mufflers in the rear, the entire system is still 10 pounds lighter than any other dual sided exhaust. The exhaust note is not as loud as my borla race. It is slightly higher pitched with plenty of deep gurgles and pops.

I think its more relevant because if one is considering a Titanium header the natural comparison would be another header in a different material like SS and not the stock exhaust manifold.

Anything would be lighter than than the stock cast iron manifold.

1. It does retain heat much better than ss, even I don't have solid figure to explain, but I can touch my tail pipe very soon after some serious run, the oEM ss pipe can't.

2. The sound of the exhaust system become much sweeter, and quieter. But still authorative. I guess mainly because of more high pick sounding due to the material.

3. Weight saving maybe minor, don't mind.
I don't buy that titanium makes a car sound better. Sound is determined by pipe size, resonators, and mufflers.

Did it ever occur to them to make the mufflers bigger? if it was too loud? I can't believe that most of the BLah blah on titainum is wieght savings and then they tack on 4 mufflers - could have saved a bit more wieght using two.

I'll wait for the platinum pipes to come.

I saw it at SEMA.... very pretty but a little too much $$ for me and not enough weight savings for the price.

They had a lot of other titanium bits and pieces that I really, really liked though.

If indeed this Ti system is 22 pounds, then it is less than 10 pounds lighter than the popular Militek:

Not trying to be ****, but for this kind of price, and no performance data yet, weight deltas, appearance and sound need to be very compelling reasons to buy...

TonyB, after chking w/ Gennex Motor, they admit the Ti system is the same on the E-Bay, you can see pics clearly on the website. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MINI-...QQcmdZViewItem

My intermidate pipe is exact the same as the pic except resonator was absent.

The whole system is hand made, so they won't sell cheap due to small supply quantity.

Gennex motor is not the authorized dealer for overseas sales, so they are not in position to post any tech info on the web. But they do have Dyno chart for the Ti catback system (Intermidate w/ resonator + muffler + tail). According to them , the max diff compares to the Hamann catback was 7 hp (the test car had Hamann), but at the lowe rev, Hamann hold better than the Ti system.

Next time you can call me inadvance if you plan to visit Taipei, hope I can assist you in communication.

quanmer, I appreciate the follow-up, thank you!

So, when you say intermediate pipe, you mean the piece that bolts up to the header, just after the cat, right? Just want to make sure that I understand...

Do you know the diameter of this piece? If not, that's ok. However, if you are under your MCS anytime soon, you can measure the circumference, and we can get it that way also .

Thanks again, and I will contact you prior to leaving for Taiwan.

Yes they are a great ti bike fabricator too, plus everyone I have met of them is very nice.

That's the best shot I've seen of a convertible underside! Interested in the bracing...

We did ask them that but to be honest I think english was their 4th language. It was very hard to understand them. At one point I think they said that the system out performed the super sprint unit by 7 hp. In cost alone they should be able to save $400 to $500 dollars by going to one can per side. If you look close at all the sectional welding to make each turn the labor alone is enormous. As I said before it is a work of art and most likely worth every penny in both material and construction but it is just a bit steep for a base priced 20k car and we told them so. As a point to consider most of my team members on my show team all run Eisenmen ( sp ) titanium exhausts costing in the low 3's but they are on full custom M3's and 5's so it seems to be a bit more justifiable.

They have been playing with that up at Steve's a bit and it looks like a hard fit on a non convertable. If they make any headway I will drop you a PM

Thanks Randy. There's a few of us on NAM that would be interested in some possibilities. joker, yes, the converts have special bracing in an attempt to make-up for the loss in rigidity afforded by having a solid roof... The rear control arms look different also, but I'm sure that's not convert specific...

There is one part from the convertable that you can use on your car now which MAY provide some more stiffness to the front end. They are a pair of supports which bolt from the upper shock support area to the subframe. I have had them on since the convertable was released and can not say that you notice any differance but to me if it helps in any way it has to be a good thing. I think my main motivation to get them so soon was one comment by a NAM " expert " that you could not get them without owning a convertable. If you like i can try to take some pics tomorrow of the " unobtanium " units

Sure, if it's not much trouble, please do share. I'm not sensing a need for more stiffness, but I realize that it might be helpful down-the-road. Thanks Randy.
