Our fastest minis runs 160 mph (gps confirmed) and hit 6800 rpm in 6. gear with the old long ratio gearbox. To reach this speed, at least 255 hp at the crank are required.
The facelift gearbox has the perfect gear ratio for a well tuned ccoper S.

Thanks, I understand what the facelift is now. I thought you meant another setup.

Can you tell us how long of a run it took to reach 160?

IIRC, the gear ratios changed for the '05 model year -- my '04 MCS has the earlier gearing.

The tire sizes are usualy 205/45 17" or 215/40 17" or 205/40 18" all aproximately the same (stock) diamieter.
You can reach quite fast about 120 mph, i was exactly as fast as an stock Nissan 350Z and from 30mph to 100mph exactly as fast as an stock Mitsubishi Evo.
But it takes centuries to reach 160mph........

That is what I was thinking. If you look at the Superfour article in the current issue of Car and Driver a Mini with 265 hp and over $50,000 invested reaches 100 mph in just over 14 seconds but takes more than another 13 seconds to hit 130 mph. It only gets slower after that. You would need to be in the out back to find a road that is long enough to get to 160.

Just the "racing" business on our german autobahn without any speed restriction!
It is a very hard business for our tuner to keep the power and engine durable as we can drive the cars on the autobahn for dozens of miles WOT.

The reason 3/4 and 5/6 ratios are the same is because the Getrag has dual shift forks. Transmission gears 1/2/5/6 have a 2.74 ratio equivalent (to an actual rear end gear set) and gears 3/4 have a 4.05 ratio equivalent. Effectively, R53s have no overdrive gear, which is why they pull really well in 6th gear above 70 MPH.

I will say from experience it takes a good bit of time to get from a buck-twenty to a buck-thirty on the speedo. Even if the theoretical top speed is higher, you're gonna deal with wind resistance that requires more HP to overcome. Besides, top speed is only really effective in a straight line. It's more about maintaining a higher speed in the twisties, whether you improve your engine mods, suspension mods, or both.
