Has anyone taken the time to seal the rear of the BMP to the backing plate that Randy recommends modifying for better cool air intake.

It seems that if one could seal that area off, you would then draw in only cool air from the area of the master cylinder, and better (almost completely) isolate the intake charge from engine compartment heat.

I am guessing the gains may be small, but if we go to the trouble of cutting through the backing plate to get more cool air, why not make it exclusively cool air?

Any thoughts?

Sounds right to me. Question about the bmp intake, what does the filter look like?

It's a cone filter - similar to the Rogue, but not as big. It's also a cool color - red!

if you seal this area so that all intake air must come through the vents at the base of the windsheild, you better stay away from snow/ice storms. Even minor storms have completely blocked the vents, and I live in Tenneessee. I,m sure this would be much worse in other climents. But what do I know I'm just an old man.

Motor on

tsprayfhs,

Good point, but the filter is still also taking air from the front "snorkle". BTW, sorry I havemn't responded to your e-mail yet - a lot of good questions in there, so I want to take the time to write you a detailed response.

That's weird that your vents get blocked - it must be those "wet" East Coast storms . Here in Denver, the snow doesn't even collect there.

Hope that helps.

Randy

A 928 in many many pieces has devoired the garage. (more hp, more hp ) So alas the Mini and others sit outside in all the glory of the elements. Overnite snow/ice become a problem.

How about making a new bonnet with the old air inlet and adding a new inlet over the intake and putting a 'hose' if you will to the intake box to run it cold air. Trying not to make the inlet massive and ugly, I think it would be cool (haha) and unique!
