This is v3 of my flexible diverter seal - for MSFITOY's Ram Air Intake scoop. This one was just installed, so it hasn't had a chance to conform to the underside of the scoop yet.

For this version I used a couple of 1-1/4" strips of 3/8" plastic to make the part that attaches to the front of the stock diverter, rather than gluing the garage-door weatherstrip directly to the diverter. It's removable, in case the rubber seal wears and needs replacement later.

As before, it makes a good seal, which is needed when using MSFITOY's Ram Air Intake, since modifying or removing the upper diverter leaves a 3/4" wide gap between scoop and diverter. If this gap were not closed off, the result would probably be worse IC cooling than stock.

A bit off the actual subject but it was mentioned

If the air movement is based on air in / air out, why not let the air really move.
I have an oversize IC with sprayer and did notice the "spill"

I swiss cheesed the "sub fire wall" / area at the ABS unit.
Now i do not get spill and a free mist on the passengers side if ther window (but I KNOW that it is working).

I'll try to post a photo.

Really like the rubber skirt idea ...

I will have to check out the garage stripping and check out any other stuff that may be of good use to make this.

OK, here's the answer: (I used this photo for 2 different issues--my OCC install and my M7 scoop diverter mod)

Much easier than OldRick's and sits *under* the M7 scoop, so no way there's air leak. Simple and a faxed design drawing is available on request...8-)

I *could* but you'll have to wait for me to get access to a scanner! It's a pen and ink drawing. I'll try to find one at work on Monday, then post to my MINI website.
But it's pretty simple, made from Al sheet available at HD or Lowes. You do need a scroll saw with metal blade to cut such a large piece neatly--shears will just bend it up too much.

please post the picture! this is interesting, since it would indicate that you've got cowl vent area air flow in the reverse direction to what we've all been assuming....

Here is a photo.

This came about when my pal was installing his IC scoop.
He had purchased some bonnet scoops as well.
with a location source temp gauge on the IC it was WORSE with the new scoop and bonnet scoop.
After much thought we removed the bonnet scoops and the temp on the IC was LOWER !

i don't know if i have this straight, so please bear with a few more questions.

did you get the mist coming back out of the front scoop or out of the cowl area? was it when you had the cowl scoops on or when you just used the regular cowl area?

thanks

Were those holes on the cowl area there when you added the cowl scoops?

A personal mini rant here.
Opening those holes also allows under hood heat, vapors and odors right into the HVAC system. Your AC will definitely not work as well and if you ever get a carbon monoxide leak that's going straight into your cabin.

All done

Ok lets see if we can work something to raise the efficiency of the TMIC system
my past experience with TMIC systems on Sunny GTI-R motors is heatsoak at idle. Dear g-d is it ever bad.
#1 question is WHAT is under the intercooler?
#2 and water evacuation system under the intercooler?
Just remember heat radiates up and from what i can see in the pic the i/c is basically on top of the motor which generates HUGE amounts of heat. a VERY nice design i saw was Alta's new ultra thick core which with proper work and design WILL outdo all the current TMIC designs out there now that are really inefficient.
Ideally if the Alta boys are listen put a thermal black around the i/c + water sprayer you should be some SERIOUS efficiency.

What material did you use to make this?

TIA

Thanks. I take it you haven't had any problems with the engine movement and making contact with anything?

No contact with engine movement. I am about to fabricate a new IC cover much like the Alta, but with my front extension as part of the one-piece. I will post photos, but I am shaping the front extension to the rubber gasket above the radiator. I found some really nice rubber gasket material at Lowes that I hope will work for the IC to bonnet seal. We'll see later this week.

cheers,
phil
