Drivetrain OBX Exhaust
First, I have to say that I think the 1-ball is a great system. I kept mine and if I decid not to keep the OBX, I would revert back.
Sound wise it is impossible to compare since the 1-ball is close to being stock in sound. I like the 1-ball for its stealthness (sound & look stock) so you can sneak up on unsuspecting victums at the traffice light. The OBX is the opposite, it gives you away or atleast the impression your MODded to the hill.
I may add a resonator and perhaps change tips. Removing the tips did change the sound noticeably for the better and the irony is that SuperSprint makes 4 different tips but the cost from $142 to $227
. AND of course I like the 227 pair.
My son (whom the car is for, he has his learners permit) - LOVES the sound and my wife has no issue with it. BUT my wife is not the norm in this department and suspect most wives wouldn't go for it.
Sound truely has an age correlation - I would perfer it to be a notch down in loudness, yet my first two cars I ran ANSA Quads and they were both louder. I went to vist a friend and his ferrari with stock pipes was atleast as loud as this. So far what bothers me is the tone up near redline for it goes from deep and throaty to something else my friend describes as "ricey". If I could keep the low deep throaty to redline I'd be giving this more of the thumbs up.
As`well if the "kit" had hooked up to the stock pipe I would have given it a better review but the fact that they did not supply the right connector pipe is reflection of quality detail. Just take a look at the OBX header post some have gotten the header with no hardware!! unforgiveable for it leaves a lasting impression.
My interest in this was from a header (200) plus exhaust (299) = 500 compared to just an exhaust alternative (500 plus). Lets say that the resonator with pipe (from CAT to the OBX exhaust) costs around 100.00 and produces the perfect sound then I think I'm head of the game.
There is no doubt that I would do the header again, I felt it improved performance even hooked up to my 1-ball.

Thanks for all the feedback
Please let us know if you fit the resonator!! At this stage I might just go with the 1 ball because I want the close to stock quietness!!
The OBX is just so cheap it makes it hard to resist but I dont want the noise. The intake noise is already to much for me

I couldn't help myself for 299 - and thought I would take one for the team.
No regrets my wife took the car yesterday for her commute (an hour drive back) and had no complaints. My son (15) thinks its cool!
I'm just must be getting old. As I said before my first two cars ran ansa quads and were louder.
I still think the 1-ball is a terrific option. No doubt the car exhales better and since it bearly alters sound, I think this is a minimum must do.
I think the header and the 1-ball are a great combo and would go this route before I put on just a Catback.

thank you for taking one for the team! I agree, based on your clips, the exhaust would be too loud for me a on a day to day basis as well. I don't mind a little racket, but i hate coming in late & disturbing the neighbors, etc. (those of you laughing now...you will say it someday too!!!
great input on the header & one-ball alone.....they seems like a good bang for the buck set up. Add intake & pulley to that, call it a day.
thanks again!

It great to see all the comments about the OBX system. I'm about to buy a system in the next few weeks and was taken back by the Bargin price. Was there any increase in HP? I can't get the sound clips to work-maybe my mac is having a bad day. Is there anywhere else a sound clip might exist? So MIDAS was a good place for install?

I had sound clips but they did not really reflect the true sound and ended up needing the space so I removed mine. If you can get a Supersprint clip that would be a good indication.
This is a full sport sound system - no doubt. When you are on the throttle (at play) this system is loud but thats when it should be loud in my opinion. Highway its very very acceptable - while not stock not loud at all - no drone. When I'm cruising down the highway, i don't notice it at all.
I found the sound has evolved from the intial break in - under normal driving the loudest acoustic point is about 4,000 rpm but you're pretty much shifting at that point.
Bear in mind that the OBX does not come with a resonator which is a SS option. So a resonator could be added - I keep saying I'm going to add one because I wouldn't mind if it dropped a notch but its not so loud that I'm running out to do it.
I recently put on the SS Viper tips
and feel the sound changed from the stock OBX tips. SS makes 4 different tips which pop right on the OBX , unfortunately at almost the cost of the OBX system.
Are there better Catbacks - YES but I looked at my purchase as follows -
OBX header + OBX exhaust compared to JUST a Catback. May not be a fair comparison to some but from a cost perspective it is to me.
Dollars as a major or primary factor in the purchase of exhaust systems, I would spend as follows -
#1 exhaust option = obx header plus 1 ball - total parts cost 325.00 appr.
#2 exhaust option = obx header + obx exhaust - total parts cost 500.00 appr.
If dollars are not a factor or a low factor in the purchase equation - then you have tons of options going all the way up to a titanium catback system for 2,000.
OBX is a viable system for some people.
Install - Midas can do it - read what I posted about my install.

Was just browsing Ebay and ran across an OBX exhaust auction and came here to do a search.
