Catch Can Connection - what about this?

I know there are many, and in some cases, long posts on this topic. Heck, I've even contributed to many of them.

I'm revisting the catch can connection possibilities and wanted to throw another out here for comment.

What's the draw back of t'ing both sides of the valve cover together into one side of the can and the other side connected to the gray line to the SC. The line coming from the intake, cap off.

Isn't the only reason the valve cover is connected to the intake (stock connection) is to consume the waste product coming from the valve cover area?

Just a thought, maybe a stupid one, but would appreciate input.

Can anyone provide input on this?

I currently have the catch can hooked up per manufacturer instructions but have pulled to IC to perform another mod and noticed oil in both connecting boot grooves so I'm thinking about going another route.

I know of the two can connection but have never seen someone post this method. Maybe because it's taboo, I don't know, but would like to get feedback before going the two can route.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the implications are by hooking up to the PCV side as opposed to the regular crankcase vent. I thought one of the reasons there are two vents is that the PCV side will not have enough vacuum under heavy load to suck all the oil vapor. The crankcase vent will always see some vacuum (I believe).

The breather, as the name implies, needs to be able to let air flow back and forth. That's why it's hooked to the intake upstream of the throttle but downstream from the air filter. I don't think it's a good idea to either cap it off, or to tee it together with the PCV valve. Keep them separated.

vacume lines

The PVC valve allows the manifold to draw contaminated air from the engine.

The line from the intake provides make up air, allowing clean air into the engine from the filtered intake.

If you tee them together your engine will not have proper circulation.

Thanks for the input!

So I think I'll go with the 2 can approach. PVC to can in with can out going to the gray line going to SC. Second can with valve cover going to can in and can out going to intake.

I believe that's the way it would go.?

Yep, that's the way to do it. In fact, you may find that the catchcan between the breather port and the valve cover doesn't catch much or anything. IMHO, the PCV-to grey hose to the SC is the better fishing location.

Thanks Andy. I'll go with the PCV side since I have the one can there now. I'll just hook up the breather to the intake for now.

The reason I want to reconnect is that I noticed oil in the IC boots which would indicate they way I have it hooked up is not really working.

I had the IC to do another mod, your VGS! All done and what a difference. Posted that in your VGS thread. Just wanted to say THANKS for the mod!!!

re: Catch Can Connection - what about this?

Would a catch can made of pvc or cpvc (clorinated pvc) resist gas and oil? I think that it will hold up to the heat (especially the cpvc). I think that it will hold up to the pressure but am not sure. Any knowledge of this as a definate?
