LSD - is it installed already?

Just got a 03 mcs. Is there a "for sure" way to know if a LSD has been installed on my car (besides rev/dump cluch)? I know the engine has had some mods, but I'm not sure about the differentials. thanks

Something like jack up the front of the car, put it in Neutral? or maybe it has to be in gear. And try spinning one of the front tires, and then something is supposed to happen, what that something is I don't remember =) Either the other wheel is supposed to turn the opposite way, not turn at all, or turn together with the wheel you're turning, I don't remember.

hehe. I think it doesn't matter what you have in the car on the "jack-up" test, I believe the tires will turn in opposite directions. Could be wrong though. Now you're gonna make me do MORE research...lol

Go to the parts department at your local dealership and give them your chassis number and they can print you out your build sheet.

That or turn off the asc and lay some rubber but you might be

Build sheet wouldnt tell you if one was added after the fact. Besides, he said its an 03. I thought LSD became an option for 04? I could be wrong on that though

The best way to tell is just drive it.

Like so:

Find a corner (or a parking lot), and travelling at around 20-30mph, turn the steering wheel slightly about 30-45 degrees, then gently hold the steering wheel at that position, and floor the gas pedal. If the car "digs in", i.e. starts to turn into the corner as if you turned the steering wheel, then you have LSD.

You can use LSD (via accelerator) to steer the car in corners, just fyi.

Keep in mind, your car never came with LSD, so if it does have it, someone had to add it.

LSD was/is only available from the factory from Jan. of 2005 production onward. You don't have factory LSD if you have an '03.

LSD is a factory option on 05 and up, not 04.

Do that on a gravel road. Get out and see if you made one track or two. Easy to do and easy on the car.

Not easy on the paintwork though.
