Gear Ratio
I give up, 3 weeks I've been trying to find the gear ratio of my 05 MCS and I still haven't found it, what the hell is the gearing in the 05?
And is it a different ratio with 6 spds vs automatic?
I would have liked to find this info myself but as hard as I tried I came up empty.

Those are overall ratios, so they already take the final drives (there are two final drives) into consideration.

yea i saw that now (ur edit) i have a 700r auto in my 63' chevy W/4:11's rears & it revs kool, and thats a 4speed but does not rev higher than mini cars!?!? i often wonder why myself. but it sure feels good to be able to down shift to 5th & take off nice and strong tru 6th

5.7 liters -vs- 1.6 liters? The MINI would be an absolute dog in 6th if it ticked over at 2k at 70 mph. Probably good fuel economy though.
BTW, Quaife offers a dog-engagement trans for the MCS (bye bye, synchros):

They now sell final drive ratio with straight cut gear but I still haven't found what the stock final drive is and they don't tell you what the aftermarket one is either but there are people who actually bought this for $2100 installed
I wouldn't spend money on something I don't know what change it will do if any.
So far I finally found one spec done the way I'm used to but it had to be for the Automatic:
AISIN Automatic
Gear ratio 1st / 2nd / 3rd
4,044 / 2,371 / 1,556
Gear ratio 4th / 5th / 6th
1,159 / 0,852 / 0,672
Reverse gear ratio
3,193
Final drive ratio
3.683
At least now I know the final drive on the Auto is 3.683, maybe if I live old enough I might one day find the same description for the 05' 6 speed without getting the overall ratio, I'm used to specs the way this auto is shown, why is it so difficult to have the same specs on a 6 speed is beyond me .

I'm assuming MINI chose to let the MCS rev high at freeway speeds in order to keep the sweet spot of the supercharger available on demand. Personally, I'd have prefered lower RPMs and better mileage when I'm going 70, and making a quick and fun downshift whenever I need a sudden burst of power.
Of course, I'm not an automotive engineer and therefore lack a full understanding of the tradeoffs involved.

My wife's Pontiac Vibe behaves like that, top gear is well below the torque peak at freeway speeds. Let me tell you, it's really annoying to have to downshift from 5th to 3rd just to maintain speed on the gradual grades found on Interstates. Conversely, it's great that in the MCS, I haven't found any occasions where I NEED to downshift from 6th (of course lots of times when I CHOOSE to though).

Gearing is matched - or should be - the the engines power curve characterisitcs...and perhaps aerodynamics where top end is concerned.
Very intersting that many aero race cars must incorporate aero forces acting on the tires - tire deflection - into top end gearing...the tires circumference shinks due to aero forces, whereas, ours grow.
