Brand New MILLTEK--It smells bad

Is it normal for a new MILLTEK (just installed today) to smell bad...sort of like burnt rubber?

Yes! Mine did for the first few drives. Then it goes away and everything is fine. How do you llike your new exhaust?

Ok. Good to know. At first I thought it was burnt plastic as my valance is just barely resting on the top of my tips...after checking it though, the plastic looks fine.

Let me just say that getting those two bolts of the stock header was a real pain in my @$$. Otherwise it was an easy mod.

I trimmed my valance a little to make a bit more clearance.
At first I thought it was a bit to quiet but it livened up some.

Mine stunk too. It's caused by the oils and waxes used during the manufacturing process. They'll burn off after about 100 miles of driving or so. It's nothing to worry about.

Enjoy your new pipes!

It is a little quiet but it definitly has a good throaty sound. It really comes alive when you get on it.

Thanks for chiming in guys! Now I can enjoy my first track day worry free.

It's normal for it to be smelly for a while.

Also:you may need more clearance to keep the valence from melting; many people stack 5/16th washers on the hanger bolts.

Hmm, didn't notice anything like this at all with my recently fitted Milltek. I've probably done about 500-1000kms since fitting.

My tips were just touching the rear valance as well. This didn't appear to be an issue as far as melting went, but did cause a vibration that was easily fixed by very carefully trimming a few mm from the valance itself.

After installing my Milltek MCS exhaust I noticed a fine metallic dust all over my rear window and hatch for many months. Eventually it burned out and stopped but it made for lots of sparkly things. I had to clean them off daily and didn't want them rusting if left on the finish.

No smell from my Milltek.

Ditto for me! No smells, but lots of tiny metallic dust.

By the way Biggripper, congrats on joining the Milltek club

The sound deepens a little too after several thousand miles.

trim touching will BURN!

that's what happened to mine. it burnt the shape of the tips....the best thing to do is to pull a little on each outside ehaust bracket so that it drops a little..
