Newb question about filter and intake

Okay this is probably a stupid question... if I get the twister cold air intake does that replace the factory induction system? If it doesn't replace it, would it make sense to get a high flow air filter or is the intake already sufficient and I would be just tossing my money out the window?

Thanks guys and gals!

What is a “Twister” cold air intake? Have not heard of that brand.

As for whether or not the “intake is already sufficient” is purely a judgment call that only you can make as it’s your money.

That being said……..the simplest upgrade is to replace the stock filter element with an aftermarket item (K&N, BMP, etc.) which allows more air flow but retains the intake and stock air box. After that there are several aftermarket air induction systems that replace the stock air box and/or ducting. The price varies and you need to do a search on this site and also read the reviews (over there on the left), and see what folks have to say about each system.

Most of these systems are a bit louder than stock (some are not) and this can either be a plus or minus for you.

As for tossing your money out the window……check-out the infamous “catch can” (basically a jar with a-hose-in-and-a-hose-out) for $130!!

But then again, we are all unique and one just cannot help spending money on a Mini don’t ya see………………..

My mistake! I saw this "Twister" intake on the Mini Madness site. I want to get the stage 2 performance package. Stage 1 has the filter instead of the intake. So your saying that the intake doesn't replace the induction system and I can get both?

Sorry! I'm car stupid... But thanks for your help!

I took a look at both packages over at Mini Madness site. Your right….there is a “Twister”. The Cold Air Induction nomenclature is nothing more then a fancy name for an air filter inlet that draws air from outside of the engine bay.

Intake wise, the stage 1 package only replaces your stock filter element with one that flows more air.

The stage 2 Twister Cold Air Intake is a replacement for your stock filter and air filter box (i.e. induction system), so if you purchase the Stage 2, you would not want or need the Stage 1 filter element.

I’m not really familiar with the non-S systems on the market as I did all my research on the cold air inductions for the S.
