Can someone recommend a data logger. What should I be looking for?

really depends on what you want it for and how much you want to spend.

Anywhere from $150 to $3K plus.

here is an inexpensive odb2 logger

www.laplogger.com $60 ... also there is visual basic source code on the net - look at mp3car.com for elm323 that this logger is based on... I just picked one up here at NAM for $45. It works great as an inexpensive logger.

Whatcha doing? I use loggers every day at work, and they all run from $900 to $9,900. But I don't think you want one of them The palm based systems looked cool for just getting and idea of what your car is doing. Do a search, it seems like it was a recient subject around here.

Oh, if you want to check out the expensive ones www.campbellsci.com

You should consider waiting for the Bim-Com system coming from Ross-Tech. A number of us are using the beta version, and it is impressive indeed. I'm not sure when the final product will be released, but, hopefully, it will be before the end of this year. You might want to check the Ross-Tech website for a preliminary announcement: www.ross-tech.com/products.html

I like what I see on the Ross-Tech site. Anything comparable on the market already?

Yes. It's been "Coming Soon" for a while. There is a group for it on Yahoo! Autos.

From what I've been able to tell, this product has taken them a LONG time because of the limited amount of information BMW gives out (ie, none). Plus, they say they completely rewrote the software so they could develop modules for specific cars, which makes a TON of sense in a software point of view.

The Yahoo! group explains it MUCH MUCH better than I could, with responses from the developers.

By modules I meant the program was developed with a plugin structure.

Mini-madness recommends software by Nology called "Laptop Dyno". You can download a demo version at www.nology.com. It's not so specific for the mini as the ross-tech, but its got a nice interface and features.
