But I'll do acetone rinses before each state. I also have a first gen ALTA TMIC that I'll throw into the mix. Even if the measurment is the same, think of it as "independant confirmation".

With all the HP numbers running around, some confirmation can't hurt.

So we'll get verification of the numbers, and a relative measurement to the ALTA first gen.

Plot thickens...

Cradin quoted $65 with them doing cleaning and masking, but there's shipping and turn around.
A local shop, Replika Maschinen, Inc., quoted $100-$130, but no shipping from where I am.

I've got a work trip for most of next week.... So I don't think the coating will happen for about two weeks....

Well, as you might be able to tell by my name, I have egg on my face. There is a huge problem with my over-simplification of the data. Yes indeed 4 C may equal 30+ degrees F but it does not mean that a 4 C difference from 36 C to 40 C equals a 39 degree F drop in relative temperature. I apologize for the inaccurate statements I made.

I recognized the problem when I started to compare percentages and again I am sorry for the mistake.

That is ok, man. We all make mistakes. Just don't get too upset by it... I'm sure everyone will agree that we appreciate your effort and thought. Some ideas work wickedly, others don't....but that's a part of monster, ain't it? Cheers and hope you have a good night!

Keith you are a model for us all - always professional, honest, polite and a gentleman; we should all do so well and resist anger or negative reactions as you do! I look forward to your next endeavor! Derek

Thanks to those of you making the crow more palatable.

Matt, since you did some temp logging with the intercooler modifications, what was the most significant temperature change recorded in the intake manifold?

I'd have to dig pretty deep to see if I can find the data.

But the interesting thing is that in driving, the M7 scoop with a stock IC is almost as good as the GRS unit without the modified diverter. The combo of a scoop, and the GRS was best (as it should be). I'd hazard to guess that a coated stock IC with an M7 scoop would be as good as the aftermarket TMICs at much less $. Its an open question how well a coated aftermarket TMIC and scoop would do.

I think there is a lesson or 40 to be had here. If you do the TMIC mod, play with the diverter a la TonyB so that you don't waste any of the air. Otherwise less than perfect diverter design will compramise the potential benefit of the very expensive IC.

Matt

one thing I do remember is Tony mentioning that the GRS temps were higher, but I guess it had less back pressure, because the densities were greater. Remeber, it's not just temps, its pressure too. Most of the aftermarket ICs have much greater internal flow area, giving less pressure drop accross the IC. We don't have any data on Tony's modified diverter, other than his touch tests....

Indeed, I have not put the modifications through the same testing process to see how effective they truly are. And since I've done some other performance modifications to my MCS (not related to the IC) since that time, the results would not be ideal for comparison purposes. With that said, if I got cooler temps (IATs), it would speak even more highly for the GRS mods done...

The experimenting led me down a multitude of paths, almost consuming at times to where I was drawing stuff-up on the shower glass door! Got a really novel idea or epiphany a couple months back, and after cutting-up cardboard boxes, I decided to contact Peter of M7. I received some confirmation that it is certainly worthy of pursuit; and he is doing so, and along with his ingenuity, he is refining it with a top shop in the LA area. If this thing works as conceived, it will cool, and not only the charged air (most important), but also do a pretty decent job at clearing heat in the engine bay...

This was alluded to in another thread by Sid and Matt I believe, so this is not really anything new... just a bit more info I suppose.

Yes Tony and I have collaborated on this very unusual design, and after many months of contemplating IC core designs and life. We finally locked down the design and put it in to pre-production status. Without giving the store away.....I can guarantee all of you, that this "air 2 air" design is ground breaking and follows M7's "out of the box" philosophy. Product name "DFIC".

Sincerely

Peter

Cranking some numbers...

I took the 4.1 deg C average delta and worked some test number Andy had posted in this post: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...0&postcount=44

Reworking the numbers, IC Thermal efficiency goes from

R1 68% > 74%
R2 70% > 86%
R3 70% > 75%
R4 68% > 73%

Note that Run 2 didn't look like it was running under boost, so take that one as a curiosity. But it looks like the coating will improve IC thermal efficiency 4%-5%. And this is at fixed internal flow restriction. While this doesn't seem like much, every bit helps if your seeing any timing retard due to knock loop intervention, or slight pinging....

JLM sent me a couple IC cores. They're off to get coated, and I'll reconfirm. I'm gonna send my gen 1 Alta off to get coated as well to see how it compares.

Matt

The latest item to get a ceramic coating; the pipes get hot but can still be touched, the canisters stay cool enough to hold, the tips won’t brand the shins.

wow Keith, that looks sweet, i always thought of doing this, but did not want to sound stupid and ask? Looks sweet, which is besides the point and the intention. Greg was mentioning about this yesterday, and i asked him if you were doing the CC on header or the whole system? Obviously it is the heat management, however could you possibly explain in details please?

Keith, I've been pondering the same! Did you have the coating done on the inside as well, minus the mufflers?

Adding weight? What drugs are you on!!! Where's the TonyB I know and what did you do with him?!?!? Next thing you know, you'll get those new M7 Strut Tower Braces, drive with a full tank of gas, 2 1/4r pounders in your tummy, and go over 2500 lbs!

It's me buddy! I do indeed have a penchant for weight loss... but I've actually done some mods that have added poundage:

driving lights
interior light
gauges (4)
toggles
shift **** (heavy Whalen)
Euro parcel shelf (heavier than knee bolster?)
aux input
dual cig lighter
oddment tray
and a few decals

Some coating to aid in hp, I'm all for!

And the decals, that's wayyyy too much weight. But with the new ultimate power mod you did, you're wayyy ahead of the game.
