!
I dunno, I guess it is all based on the numbers entered (which people often do not discuss) but every car I saw - Mitsubishi/Nissan/BMW ran low and the guys at the shop, along with several Evo owners who had Dyno'd around on the other types, said the Dynopaks show low numbers.

As for me, I don't believe in dyno numbers as absolutes anyway, only for comparison before/after uses (and even then the temp changes etc can make it less then perfectly accurate).

mikem53,
Attached in the dyno graph of that we did long ago. This was a totally stock car with just the intake. Basically 10-12 WHP.

eVal,
Exactly only comparing numbers from the same dyno, same car, and same day is really the only way to compare.

agreed about dyno comparison in general, however a 20% difference is large. The range of stock S cars I have seen is from 145-155 wheel hp from various dynos (dynapac, Dynojet, Mustang) that is a very acceptable 10 hp or 7% variation.

cars with 19% pulleys, Inakes, ECU are coming in anywhere from 180 to 200 (depending on the exact mods); that is quite a difference from the Eurostyles Mini results of 162. Instead, it shows there are useful facts to get from comparing different dynos...that car is perfoming 20% below average.

Thanks Jeff... thats a healthy number for an intake. I will be thinking hard on it.
Thanks again

jlm,
To give you some of my experience on some dynos using subarus.(I only have experience with the mini on a local mustang)
stock WRX on a mustang 165
dynojet 185
dynapack 190
dynodynamics 145
dastek 190
So the difference in ESE numbers compared to others on a dynojet are normal in my eyes. Our mini S made 145WHP on the mustang, and i have seen someone post 165 from their dynojet runs. Its all about that magic number that they plug in to give the HP.

ESE has posted a 19% car with misc mods at 197 whp. So I'm not sure I see how that's out of line with the 180-200 whp range? Am I missing something? Maybe that 162 whp 19% car (or individual test) is the oddity and not generally the Mustang being 20 whp low overall.

My MINI (ESE Project Car), has consistently shown the same numbers with the pulley, intake, ecu, injectors, and exhaust. The only numbers I could "fudge" (just like any other Mustang dyno) are the vehicle weight, and the power@50 value. The dyno itself is calibrated at Mustang before delivery and then re-calibrated here by Mustang for inconsistencies like different incoming power voltages, etc.

Unfortunately, the chart that everyone wants to see are ones like these:

...because it really only displays peak numbers...the numbers that everyone likes to brag about.

Charts like these are the ones that should be looked at more often, since you can eyeball the area under the curve:

I feel dynos are only good for tuning, diagnostics, baselines, and comparisons...everything else should be taken with a grain of salt.
