Drivetrain Header question
Anyone have experience with the MiniMania header? Does it have a Cat? How does it sound? any links? Would it make a new car fail emission testing? Just curious. Would it bolt to an aftermarket exhaust? So many questions.....Thanks for any help or thoughts.
No, the MINI Mania header does not have a cat. The issue is the check engine light. There are two lambda sensors in the down pipe from the stock header - one before the pre-cat and one after the cat. The second sensor checks the system and reports a fault - which shows up as a check engine light.
I'm still researching this issue, and should have more on Monday. I'll let you know ASAP. We're trying to determine if the system can be tricked.
I'm also working to produce a race cat header to see if this problem can be alleviated and satisfy some of the more lenient state emissions.
More information will follow shortly.

caddman,
I posted a how-to with the new header that incorporates the high-flow cat and both lambda ports - no check engine light. The only drawback of this beautiful system is the price -$1300. It seems that with a cat that works and a quality collector, you must pay.
There is still an option to bypass the loop with a "simulator", but you would obviously still fail the emmissions test without a cat.
I'm still developing products, so there may be more options in the future.

a small correction: the two lambda sensors are located: one before the pre-cat and one after the main cat. they compare readings to determine the cat efficiency

Hmmm im not in a state that checks emissions, so i could care less, but i dont want a check engine light to blare me in the eyes, so is there any way to fool the comp so that i dont have the light, this would be the ticket if i could figure it out

Hello,
I saw a new header + high flow cat. by Miltek for about 495£ ( http://www.amdtechnik.com/main.html). More or less 740$.

Gisby - welcome to MCO!!
That is a unit in the UK, right? Once you get it here, it would probably be around $1100. That shipping is a killer - along with exchange rates.
Another key issue is whether or not the system will work without setting off the check engine light.
Looks like I'll have to check out this system too - sheesh this testing gets expensive!

The CEL isn't the only thing you should be concerned about. You may want to have a local MINI tech check for fault codes. Some codes can be stored without setting off a light.

You are absolutely correct Andy. I have checked and no hidden or stored codes have been seen either. You can see this with the bypass valve also - if it faults, you usually don't see it unless you run a diagnostic.
It's great to have you on the board - you have a lot of useful information

Maybe through the USA stockist will be less expensive:http://www.stratmosphere.com/index.htm
Thank you for the " high flow " of useful informations. Nobody here, in Italy, is doing your kind of work.
By the way, did you already try Leda and Spax suspensions? How is the 19mm rear sway bar in fast corners, I have stock suspension with 16" and I feel the rear a little bit loose, not too bad for the track but for the street... but I need more traction for sure.
What is the diameter of the stock front sway bar? I saw some 26 and 27 tubolar front sway bars...
OK enough questions!

I now see that MINI Mania has a new header with a cat for $750 which is much cheaper than any of the other Header cat combos. I guess Randy will have one more to test.
