I should have mine tomorrow. So I can post. I don't know if anyone will notice and noticable performance gains. It does lower intake temps a bit to the intercooler so it should help some. I think the next best upgrade will be a intercooler cover diverter to help with that increase in scoop air.

I have the Alta IC and diverter. The butt-dyno likes it. I'm thinking that this will help more..........please let us know

So after 132k miles what kind of mods do you have?

I have springs, rear sway bar, brake pads, drilled and slotted rotors, short shifter, intake, 15% pulley, ecu remaped, filter, strut brace, exhaust, plugs and wires. I think that's everything. Oh BTW the way I drive like crazy at auto crosses.

You guys are going to love it. The quality is absolutely amazing, but that is no surprise:

M7 is also developing some cowl scoops to go with the hood scoop but I was impatient and got my mitts on a set of the Ociari scoops. They compliment the M7 scoop very well IMHO:

I saw one of these in person last weekend and the fit and finish looked very nice. The owner had it painted by a local shop to match his MCS. I'm still curious to see what (if any) effect this scoop has on intercooler efficiency ... something that is VERY easily measured with $50 in gauges.

I know my car pretty well and at first I am going with the butt dyno.

what is the method for doing your test....I have a spare $50.

This is taken from M7 website regarding the scoop ...
more info can be found on www.m7tuning.com/products/hoodscoopnumbers.html

Yep, I've seen that info, but it's not actually measuring the air, and it's not actually measuring anything while the intercooler is in use.

Install a pair of these in the rubber intercooler boots (the wires are long enough to reach into the car to mount the gauges next to the steering wheel:

http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp?pn=3105400

Go out and do a WOT pull to/from whatever RPM/speed range you choose. Say, 2k-4k in 3rd gear. Record the peak temperatures measured by each gauge (they have a convenient peak hold function) along with the ambient temperature (from your OBC). Repeat the same procedure with the stock scoop. If possible do a few runs with the M7 scoop, a few runs stock, then a few runs with the M7 scoop back in as a sanity check. I'd be happy to help crunch the data or you can use this formula:

Ei = Intercoler Efficiency
inlet = temp of the air coming from the supercharger into the intercooler
outlet = temp of the air leaving the intercooler into the intake manifold
ambient = temp of the outside air

Ei = (inlet - outlet)/(inlet - ambient)

For example:

Ambient = 8.5* C
Ei = (75.2* - 29.7*)/(75.2* - 8.5*) = 68 %

Intercooler efficiency shows how much heat is removed as a percentage of how much heat it is theoretically possible to remove.

thanks , i'll try to make this happen

I use this scoop now at the track. I know some like numbers for the obvious reasons, but I'll go out on a limb here and say that without a doubt, this scoop helps.

Now, I'm really going to hate saying this as I don't want to make any problems with anyone. I'll start by saying that the M7 guys are a great crew that are very active in trying to provide the Mini owners here some creative products, so cheers to them and I do hope they keep up the great work.

Understand that I am talking strictly from a performance view and not a cosmetic one. Now, ..... I was a bit unhappy when I received my scoop. The final opening was just too small, and in fact a bit smaller then stock. The concept is great, the design to me is right on, but the follow through I think is lacking. Some more thinking could have been done with this scoop, and I hope M7 takes this in a constructive way.

I went to work right away with some modifying. I do some glass work with my RC sailboats, so tackling this scoop was not a big problem. Basically what I did was open the final opening by about 30%, that's a possible 30% more air flowing to the IC. I could have done more, but time was an issue. We still have a lot of the intercooler off to the left of these scoops. I think that this scoop could be modified to help this out. This is where I think M7 fell short.

Too bad that this scoop was not molded from the same plastic that the stock scoops are as the heavily laid fiberglass “matt”, lot’s of epoxy and a ton of gel coat make this a pretty heavy addition to the front of the car. (mine is even heavier) A bit more thinking and this scoop would have been a home run, but as for now it's only at third base.

is the smaller exit due to velocity considerations?

Call Peter and ask him. He told me he had several problems getting them painted properly. Mine wasn't shipped until this week and I ordered almost a month ago.
