Axle Replace Poll

How many people have had one of there cv joints fail on them? If you have broken one which side. I am doing research on this to see if this is really a weak link on the MINI, or if the people who have broken them had duds.

My left (drivers side) snaped on me last night.

I'll be watching this thread with great interest, but I have one more question to add: what is the wheel-horsepower of the cars that have broken or damaged axles?

I'm doing a little research project...

Spillman, in another thread you stated you broke it while drag racing and that you have ran your car 60 times. If you want to find a "weak link" in any car, just run it 60 times through the quarter mile.

So are you saying that if I don't go out and do 60 hard launches followed by hard shifts at maximum acceleration, , my chances of breaking an axle are reduced? That's something to think about...

Easy for me to resist actually. Heel & toe downshifts at maximum breaking, turn in and back in the gas hard... now that's a different story.

Hope you had fun Spillman.

Hmmm... Lets see... Yes I did have lots of fun breaking it. I out ran several camaros and mustang gt's. As for the smart a$$ remarks I don't find that too fun.

I am simply trying to see if other people on here have had the same problem. And perhaps if one post was to go untainted by all you guys out there that just like to be a donkey about things (you know what I mean by that) then maybe someone could accomplish something.

I am not just a drag racer either. I autocross often and do several track days a year and will soon have my SCCA racing license. I think drag racing the car is a great way to find out where things are going to break.

Whoa, man. I meant no offense. I am glad you're having fun with your MINI in all kinds of venues. Wave the flag for us. I support you. Really.

All I meant is that drag racing is especially hard on equipment. Clearly, you understand and agree with that. If you're serching for weak links, drag racing will (as you said already) help identify them.

So put it back together, make it stronger where it breaks, and go kick some more tail.

Whoa Spillman, we're not trying to be SAs. The simple facts were stated. If you talk to any front drivers who drag their Honduhs or what ever, you'ld find they all have this common "weak link". FWD is not as robust in the drive train as say a rear wheel drive with a Ford 9" diff. But I've trashed a Ford 9" that was a competition built unit. The only "weak link" was the nut behind the wheel!
