Alta Cold Air Intake Installed, my thoughts and comments!

Alta, so far has only exceeded my expectations on every install I have done thus far. Granted I have only done the Alta Intake, 15% pulley, and oil catch can (rear lower control arms coming my way this week). All I can say is once again I am pleasantly happy with tanother Alta mod, and even more pleased with the throttle response, added power, but most noticeable is the awesome sound of the supercharger that is amplified by the intake.

The install was a piece of cake (especially since there were no inch/foot torquing involved). Took me all but 1 hour to do. The elapsed time was really 2 hours, do you ever wonder what is going through your neighbor's minds when they see you engulfed in a project under your hood, but still proceed to ask you a million and one questions, right while you are in the middle of an important install sequence? OK enough of that.

The only problem I found is they Alta seemed to forget one clamp for the fresh air tube connecting to the front shroud, but I reused the factory clamp, so no big deal.

I am very impressed with the overall fit, finish and performance of the Intake. I had ordered the black hose as to keep with the whole OEM look inside my engine bay. The red filter doesnt seem to bother me all that much, as I thought it would.

The throttle response is definately more responsive and you can really feel the charger engage at what seems to be a lower RPM than before. I am very happy with it in the few miles, gunning the throttle that I did, and will add some longer term feedback tomorrow evening when I return home.

Big thanks to Aaron at Outmotoring, and of course Alta for their fine product!

How did you reuse the factory clamp? Do you need a special tool to get the clamp off and put it back on?
Thanks,
Justin

Me too. I seriously think that any power increase in a bonus. I just LOVE the sound.

Of course, I find myself flooring it just to hear the whine of the SC, which can be bad.

The stock clamps open by inserting a screw driver and twisting. They close with pliers.

gurgle

Itsdchz,
I'm interested in purchasing an Alta intake. Under normal driving conditions, do you hear the air flowing to the throtle body. Does it sound like a gurgle or a swishing noise?
Thanks for the info.

I just had my Alta CAI for a week. The air sound is like 'zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' at constant speed + the SC sound. The air sound gets louder a bit when you step harder on the gas.

People buy CAI because of sound or HP gain, but I get ALTA mainly because of the red tube and a foam filter...hehehe

It doesn't make a waterfall kindda sound like other intake, but ALTA CAI make better and more civilize sound that you can enjoy. The sound that is not just scream to the people on the street, but just for you to enjoy it.

I highly recommend it for sound, HP and better airflow for the MINI. It isnt the typical sounding intake, yes you hear the PSSST of the air being sucked in but the sound of it in the intake tube and such are very subtle, yet noticeable. It is nothing like a Ricers AEM or Injen you are used to hearing off a CAI.

The questions of the clamps was answred above.

There are times you can hear the throttle body "whistle". It's not objectionable and is somewhat muted when compared to the supercharger whine, which frightens small children, large dogs and Honda drivers.

2004 MCS, EB/EB, sport pkg., lapis leather, 15% pulley, Alta intake, Densos, Milltec exhaust.

Thanks, you just reminded where I'd heard this before (as in before purchasing or testing a MINI)..

"Mad Max"!

Man, now I wanna watch Death Race 2000 again.

Cheers,
