Drivetrain Mods and your warranty
Hi!
New to the forum and am really interested in doing a few small mods to my car (when it finally arrives): wheels, tires, exhaust, & induction. I read the on-line owners manual and found it to be a bit "light" in describing what I could do before I loose my warranty. Any thoughts??

Minimoto,
Welcome to the forum!!
There has been a lot of discussion regarding this topic. The best way to find info on MCO (what the regulars use to call minicooperonline) is to go to the forum link from the home page and use the small yellow search in the right top next to the drop down for the forums.
From my experience, and talking with MINI, you really have a lot of leeway with regards to the mods. An intake and exhaust is no problem at all - from dealers all over the country. Suspension mods should be okay too, but check with your local dealer - try to find a tech who knows the dealer policies, not a suit type.
Have fun researching - this is the forum to check out. Let me know if you have any questions at all - I've been doing quite a bit of research and modification here in the Denver area, and now have a product line available based on what that research has shown.

If you are in the USA, legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) .
A good explanation of your warranty rights in the US can be found at http://www.granatellimotorsports.com/magnusonmoss.htm

Thank you,
I feel much better prepared to ask the proper questions of my dealership. I'll be sure to have them go over the "exact" wording of the warranty when I pick up my MINI.
