Drivetrain Official ALTA Q&A thread!
eager2own: Thanks for asking! Free installation on the shirts for sure! The pulleys should be similar, but the final price will be worked out shortly and published in that section. Regardless, it will be an excellent time to get pullied! Thanks again!
Grrrr, not good news on CARB...
Hey Adam,
Can you give us some details about this regarding why this is happening?
Mine is an 06, I guess in California our only option now is to reinstall stock?
I'm sure you at Alta also feel this way, but that's very disappointing news...
Best,

Alta--
I got a replacement water sparyer for my diverter (old black one) but you sent me the newer silver sprayer, which I haven't put on yet. do you guys have the black ones?

VBG: We agree this stinks. We are continuing to work with ARB to resolve the issues.
golden_child: Thanks for asking. I don't believe we have black any longer. I will try to find one and if I can find it, I will replace the one you have.
Thanks again!

so as of this moment the CAI for the '06 models of MCS are not approved at all and will not be approved? sorry for the redundant questioning of it but I spent an hour looking through all the posts and I just want to get things straight. Thanks again for your continual trial with the CARB standards.

e3zkiel: At this point the answer is no. Until they set up new rulings and guidelines on the 06+ models we are stuck. It will happen at some point, but when is unknown. SORRY!
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
That is an awesome picture.
Mr Alta,
I went back and found the price you gave me for a new air filter for the CAI. However there is no part# plus on you web site how would you order it when there is no way to go to the check out screen. Another thing I found disturbing was the instructions for the CAI box top. The part that freaked me out was removing the cover for the ECU. I know there is "O" rings but they are very thin and small and you always don't get a good seal. I know this from what I do for a living. I did notice the cover does come up higher than the lip of the Alta lip on the box. Any idea's on how I can make the box top work while leaving the cover in place? Thank you.

tavis1: The filter is only available by phone at this time. It will be added to the web soon (but don't wait to order.)
The lid, uses a rubber seal front back and sides to completely cover the ECU plugs, plus the rings that are inside of each plug. There is no reason for concern.
Thanks again!

Aren't those rubber seals there to form a gasket between the lid and the top lip of the box? That would still leave the top of ECU open in the air stream of the air coming in from the fresh air vent grill along with moisture from rain and what not, right?
I've read through the discussion from about a month ago regarding combination of the 2% crank with the 15 or 17% pulleys (rather than the 19%).
My questions are: what is the advantage of the 2% in combination with the 15%, rather than just a 17% without the 2% crank?
And what is the best pulley-crank combo if I'm more interested in low-end boost than high-end?

Top mount Intercooler Version 2.0
I mentioned this on another thread and thought I should add my .02 here.
I just did some dyno testing in Huntington Beach @ AutoWare on a Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer. My car is heavily modded for SCCA SM class.
I've heard all the noise about top mount IC's all being worthless, especially the DFIC type that I run.
Well my blumini pulled 230.2 whp on its 3rd pull and through the entire testing period my Alta V2 IC never got too hot to the touch.
I repeat, Never was my Alta V2 IC too hot to the touch. On the top or the flanges.
All present were shaking their heads in disbelief including the techs. They had never seen an air-to-air IC perform so well, especially on a HO 230 hp motor. That's more than I can say for the other built Coopers that were being tested there. They were all sporting the "other" DFIC brand. I won't mentioned any brands here but lets just say the initials were M7
The other guys DFIC type coolers were certainly not up to the task.
You could make a very nice omlete on all of them. One Cooper's DFIC in particular was so smoking hot they had to abort any further dyno testing until his heat problem could be corrected. I think he's got Alta's number.
Thanks for a great product.

Thanks Alta for your response. I think I will hold off on the top until I can find a rubber boot or maybe find a way to modify the lid to keep the cover on the ECU.
eager2own: Thanks for asking. The benefit of the 15+2 vs. the 17% is belt wrap. The amount of surface area for the belt to wrap around the 15% vs the 17% is larger thus less likelihood for slippage. (This has been addressed with the ALTA V 2.0 S/C pulleys grip slots etc.) But the concern is not significant. Also, many clients already own 15% S/C pulleys and thus the addition of the crank pulley adds boost, throttle response, etc. vs changing just the S/C again. Hope that helps.
blumini: THANK YOU for your honest and accurate information about the testing you did. If we can help in the future, please let us know.
TAVIS1: OK! Let me know if I can help further.
Thanks again NAM! See you at the DRAGON.

) to seal up the top with the ECU then I will reconsider the top.
But won't the installation of the strut brace req. the removal of the top? I don't believe the brace will clear the top of the box with it on.
My Alta seals real well against the bonnet, that's why I asked.

Other than that one corner mine seals up good too but, with the strut brace it will have more of a gap.
