Drivetrain Split Air Intake

I'm amused by all these attempts at ram air. I doubt there is pressure to overcome the engines consumption to provide any increased air density. With the alta (loose the wall) system, you have all the air the engine can consume with no restrictions.
I went the temperature isolation route to not lose air density. I removed the lower section of the air-box, attached it to the alta top.wraped the inside/out with foil covered bubble wrap style insulation. no heat soak. The only downside is that it muffles the sweet whine a tad. Since everyone sharing mods have pet names & acronyms this is the A.P.B.(Alta in a pizza bag)

"...Please don't think i am putting your idea down at all. I truely love the ideas the NAM crowd comes up with, to get more HP. Look at the way the mini crowd found out about the diverter valve not sealing, and gained HP by this."
By the way, I am the one who pointed this to Peter and Ryan, regarding the BPV not sealing well in some samples. I am the one who posted the picture of the faulty seal that you might have seen in some threads. I asked Ryan to add the service of verifying the seal to the samples that he sold with his modifies Ryphix#2. I have the first of such samples.

PS. Do a search for my new mod "short" shifter that accepts the Whalen machine and uses stock parts. :impatient

I try to use only stock parts, because it is cheap to me. Not a whole lot of money can be made from that. I am just having fun, like the rest of us. I do have a project with a vendor that because of my slow progress, no time, has taken more time than I had hope it would.
I have an 03 with only 22k miles, so I will have fun for years to come.

good luck with that header...I had one on my MCS, took it off a week later, not only did t sound like crap(like a Honda with a fart canexhaust ), but it also felt like I lost about 15 hp, I wouldn't reccomend it! The only good thing I can say is the quality was actually amazing for the price.

By your comment, I can tell that you installed the cat back first and then the header, or both at the same time. The ricer sound has more to do with the Skunk2 cat-back, than with the header. The OBX header does make any set up louder, but the over all loudness and sound comes from the cat-back. I picked the Remus semi-Cat-back because they are legendary for their sound. I do not have a ricer exhuast. It is very settle and absolutly no drone sound at any speed. It only starts singing as the RPMs climb, but my neighbors have nothing to complain about.
I love the OBX header. One of the best things I did to the MINI. I installed that, before the cat-back and it was great, just as other have reported. When I installed the cat back, I felt like I lost some of the gain low end torque and gained some high end. It probably was that I lost some of the back pressure. A 4-2-1 header is a great way to get low end torque versus a 4-1 header, that we have stock.
There have been times when I seriously consider going back to the stock cat-back to claim that low end torque. Maybe with a One-Ball set-up.
Over all, I like the set up that I have now. I can drive on the parking lot on 3rd and 4th without a problem. When I go to the MINI dealership, the tech loves to drive my car around and comments on the low end torque. I can do a california stop at the stop sign on 2nd without hesitation.

The most a header will do is deepen the sound of one's exsisting exhaust system and perhaps a tad louder. Headers typically add HP & TQ. In the case of OBX, NAM members have confirmed that it does.
I'm using a header and while I can say I feel a HP gain I certainly feel a TQ gain. I had it with a 1-ball and then added an aftermarket exhaust (OBX for 299). I would tell anyone w/ limited funds and performance minded - do a OBX header plus 1-ball over any just aftermarket cat back.
