Transmission swap

Hmmm I was wondering if it would be possible to swap trannys on an 04 cooper non S (CVT) with a standard 5-speed tranny or the cooper S 6-speed tranny? Has anyone heard anything like this? I have no chance of changing my current cooper with the dealer for a manual one, plus I have already done a lot of work to my car to want to switch anyway so I've just decided to swap. So does anyone know?

Thanks!

Charlie

If you want to find out the hassle of changing to a 6speed ..... call Steve at steve's auto clinic in North Hills.

sweet, so from what I've heard it can be done. I guess I'll be sticking to 5-speed now since people say the gearing on 6-speed is too high for a non S.

Sooooo, does anyone know where to find a 5-speed tranny around SoCal?

Steve's Auto clinic has one one so far . It was a hell of a time getting it all figured out but now he has it wired. Before I put a 5 spd in it you might want to check around and see how the yare holding up. The one he replaced with a 6 speed was the third 5 spd that I have seen go bad.
