Catch Can Air Filter?

Yes or No?
Like many catch cans - Mine came with a little air filter that screws into the top of the container.
Is it really beneficial to install this air filter?
Or is it better to just have a closed (non air filter) system?
I see many cans installed without the air filter.
Having a little trouble understanding why?

Our cars use the non-filtered closed catch cans because they are plumbed into the vacuum system.

@BlwnAway - I had taken cues from your post regarding catch cans from a previous/older discussion I read here on NAM. I wasn't surprised to see you'd be the one to respond with a direct answer. Thanks!

BTW: I ran the closed system for a couple of days. Afterwards, I ran this setup with the airfilter I had modded to accommodate the tight space.

As I understand now - It is not necessary.
