Drivetrain Can the Milltek gasket be reused?
Can the Milltek gasket be reused?
Im thinking about getting the Helix shortshifter adapter on my MCS.
I need to take the mid-pipe off the cat to get access to the shifter box...
and as wondering if the Milltek gasket can be reused or needs to be
replaced.
If needs to be replaced, anyone know a standard size so I can buy it
locally before taking apart the pipe?
Thanks

I don't know if this is useful, but when I put on my Borla, I was worried about that as well since the Borla didn't come with a gasket. I found that the header to mid-pipe gasket was copper, and wasn't damaged at all. I had read on Mini2 that this copper gasket could simply be reused... so I did. I had to take my exhaust off to install a short shifter some months later and the gasket was still in fine shape, so again, I reused it after the shifter install. That was near 6 months ago and I still have no exhaust leaks at all. So, I'd surmise that you can continue to use yours if its copper and remains undamaged.
Thanks for the info, bluminime. I guess I could re-use my factory
gasket if the one that came with the Milltek fails....just wasn't sure the
diameter and all, but come to think of it, it should be the same as stock...
mypocketrocket- that's right, the shifter length remains stock, just
the throw. I never liked stubby short shifters.
I ordered mine from Eric at helix today, so by tomorrow (today) I
should have it in my hands.

I'll work on itprobably next Tues when it's a tad warmer here in Chicago.
The shortshifter went in today.
very cool. I haven't been able
to take her out for a test drive due to snow, but that's okay. Perhaps
in a few days.
I tried out the feel in the garage and it feels pretty
darn goood. That's quite a bit of work just to install a little adapter!
btw, the answer to my question "can the Milltek gasket be re-used?" ...the
answer is 'no.' The gasket needs to be replaced. I just used the
factory copper gasket as BluMiniMe mentioned. Even though the Milltek
has larger diameter piping my header is factory so really doesn't make
a difference if I have the factory diameter size gasket on there or not.
If i change the header to a larger diameter piping I will then need
to get the larger size.
