Has any have sport cam and over size inlet and exhaust valves fitted to their engine and is it worth doing.

Have seen many people doing it on the R53 platform.

R53 has smaller OEM valves and there's lotsa space available to enlarge them. Our N14 valves are pretty much max'd out. A slightly larger diameter is available and the choice to go for it is probably not worth doing, at least that's the explanation I was given when I had my head-work done. Maybe if you need to replace a bunch of bent / damaged valves, and have access to good machine shop rates, it would be worthwhile. Just be sure to double and triple check valve-to-piston clearance during re-assembly. Probably need to notch the pistons for clearance. My valves are stock size but still havedclearance issues with my mild Cat Cams.

 

Really no reason to do cams when so much power is available elsewhere. Porting and polishing the head can't hurt, but the only reason I'd change out the valves is because people burn them up at higher horsepower. Also, depending on your year, cams may not even be available.

With the oversize valves at +1mm and +0.8mm from Supertech, I'm not even sure they'll make much difference to the engine and no other manufacturer I could find do them.

The sports cam have been done so that the engine will rev higher than 6000rpm.

Not really having the engine built for power, but instead for reliability with a bit of poke .

 

If you want reliability then just keep everything stock and get a mild stage 1 tune. it will bump boost up from 12 psi to ~16 psi and You'll have all the power you need for a reliable street car.

Then again who's buying a second gen Mini these days for reliability? lol

 

That's what it was before the piston went stage 2 with the required mods .
