JeffS,

Strong words, but as far as we know they could be sour grapes.

Fact is, manufacturers like BMW still look to Larry for innovation and quality.

Funny.... not as funny as what my RX7 guys are trying to do to me; from our RX7 tuning website:

http://www.rx7trix.com/store/custome...&cat=74&page=1

even funnier is the fact that these are what we have used on a half dozen cars that have passed through our shop.... as the SECONDARY injectors on the 13B-REW rotary....

Need specs

It might be helpful to update your first thread with some more specs so we have another way to compare product vs price vs quality for example:
(vendors please correct me if I misquote what I found on your websites)

mini madness has a head with 2mm valves
Pilo offers 1mm exhaust valves, ?mm intake valves,
Webb no measurements on oversized valves on the website but this thread mentions 1mm

IMO bang for buck, webb looks the best value cuz of schrick.

This looks like my next upgrade so I am in the info gathering mode.

off to read page 1 and last of the other head thread

1mm and 2mm oversized intake and exhaust respectively. We have played with 3mm larger valves, but if you get too big, you end up with no room around the combustion chamber - something we found during testing. It also disturbs swirl for the same reason.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
Randy

Clearing up things

Thanks Dan and Randy, clears up lingering queries I had this week while surfing around looking at comparisons on heads with all the bits and pieces.

It sure does help when the vendors get involved, we all win.

Has anybody been doing R&D on cam specs other than what Shrick offers? What are the Shrick specs?
Most every other car out there has tons of different cam specs for what the customer wants.

I worked with one of the UK cams - I can't find the invoice for it, and can't remember which one it was, but I think it was a Kent?? I may be wrong on the manufacturer. The Schrick worked better.

Because of the low US dollar value, the costs keep increasing on the Schrick. I am already in development to make a US cam similar to the Schrick. There will be a few variations to make it work a bit better - we'll make sure in testing.

Hope that helps!

I'd like to know where you're getting your facts from. I hope it's not from Larry himself... the same larry who spent years talking up his multiple dynos and flow benches while working out of the garage at his house.

Do what you will... just don't say you haven't been warned. Years of first-hand experiences are documented across the internet. Personally, I've never dealt with Larry. I tried to purchase parts from him years ago and could never get him to return any of the 20+ emails and 20+ phone calls I sent him.

I realize a new person criticizing a company is always suspect, so I won't offer any opinions on alternatives. I don't have an agenda, I just found it ironic that I ran across his name here.

I would be interested to hear typical wait times from any of the vendors participating in this thread. Are we looking at a month, three, six, more?

Anyone willing to give a guarantee on turnover times? I fully understand that shops can't forsee business fluctuations, but some shops tend to be notoriously overbooked.

Jeff, I'm getting my facts from Larry, I don't have to apologize for that.

Still sounds like sour grapes to me especially since you have the gaul to say you don't have an agenda when all you have done is put down Larry.

Heaven forbid anyone actually share negative experiences on the internet. Oh the horror.

Everyone does it, even your friend... http://www.theoldone.com/archive/lar...ad_porters.htm

Were my best friend looking for an engine builder, I would give my honest opinion and see no reason not to do the same here. I have absolutely no affiliation with anyone in the industry (at least noone who does mini work) and can therefore say that my only "agenda" is accurately repeat the facts that I am aware of.

You have clearly made up your mind on this issue, just as I have. Consequently, my general warnings are not directed towards you. I do not, and will not, appologize for trying to help others avoid the pitfalls that have befallen several of my friends and aquaintances.

But since you've targeted me, I'll even out my opinions by stating that Dan Paramore's work is always top-notch. I would not hesitate to send my business his way - provided I had assured turnaround times, which a vendor has already provided me. And no... I also have no relationship with DPR or said vendor.

--------

That said.. I'm surprised noone made the "support your board sponsors" plea yet.

We can get one out within a week right now. I keep two stock heads around, and the mods are done when an order is placed.

Hope that helps!

I've known Larry for 5-6 years now. I've done business with him, I've talked with him for many hours and I've been reading his forums for many years. I've read many posts on many forums from people that bash him and his business. Funny thing is that from knowing Larry and working with him on projects I know that just about everything negative I've read about Larry isn't true. His methods are tough for a lot of folks to believe. But I'd say let his components speak for themselves and let your first hand experience with Larry speak for you

They are so busy some things take a long time to get done. And at times Larry has been guilty of overly optimistic completion dates but I've never run or dealt with a company that can always stick to dates when it involves so much custom work. And in Larry's defense he appears to be turning a lot of business away so as to stay on task.
