Handheld Tuning comes to the N18
Glad to see the departure from TG. Subscription-based software is a trend that's really hard to get on board with.
Kind of late to mention, but I know this guy though the the early days of the romraider/MS41 community, and he now apparently has an R56 flasher.
https://www.bimmertuningtools.com/pr...n2-quickflash/
Now, the phone app is absolutely more convenient for flashing, but usually he has some level of logging integrated into his apps and has a few standalone datalogging apps for other platforms.
He would be open to making a logger for MEVD17.2.x but the demand isn't there from the (lack of a) Mini DIY community.
Also have good luck with romraider logger (PC based DS2 logging, maybe some CAN), aldldroid (Phone based, pretty versatile, supports telegram logging, but since a certain social media/messaging platform was launched, it's become incredibly hard to find info on telegram logging or if that's even a current thing), and logger.s ( https://shop.sorek.uk/products/gauge...-racing-analog ) as a standalone datalogger. Air vent mount + software support has been requested for the R56 and I think it's in the works but not a high priority. Very powerful setup though, between ECU logging, extra analog inputs, automatic log uploads to your cloud storage, various extras, and open software. Testo is probably the easiest to get up and running, but I'd rather something else.

Yeah I had reached out to the guys at bimmertuning but never got an answer from them. Disappointed about that but hopefully its just a case of them being super busy with development, and not ignoring the Mini due to less demand.
For local data logging I typically use either the one built into Autotuner or the data logger from VehiCal. Alientech is seriously behind the competition with the Kess3 in that regard. Although it does work via OBD on many older vehicles where a lot of newer tools do not.
You may want to look into VehiCal. It uses the same J2534 cable TG and some other tools use for flashing. The regular version is fairly inexpensive for a true high speed logger, includes variable refresh rates and is very customizable. Though it is subscription based, it will continue to function and you will continue to receive automatic updates even after the subscription expires. This even includes any advanced protocols you may have purchased. While beyond the purview of most DIYer's interested in tuning, another nice feature is that it also integrates directly into WinOLS via the visualizer plugin. Previously, this was only possible when using bFlash or the UCM-100 from EVC.
For most though I think it's tough to beat Test-O for the speed and cost ($10 donation). Mika did a bang up job redirecting the functions of INPA for the community at large.

So… Lou… can you break this thread down in simple terms for me. What’s available now? Just bought myself a new to me r56 that I intend to tune etc. previous r56 I had tuned by Mario or aka Mario kart which was great but I’ve always wanted something along the lines as a flash tuner I can do myself. Kind of like MHD or BM3 for my BMWs. Currently I tune and flash back to stocks when needed (Cali 🙄
on my r53. Which I love… but figured that wasn’t as easy or available for the r56.
if this allows that now… I’m all in. Where or how can I get this?
also this is on a N14

Hi Mortification,
For the N14 the hardware / mobile device option mentioned above is your best option. One single price with lifetime licensing, Flash back to stock whenever you want and the ability to choose from multiple tune files. Feel free to shoot me an email or PM to discuss further. We are also still working towards a unified software based remote tuning option for the Mini with lifetime licensing. Once that's available we plan to offer some steep discounts to beta testers willing to help validate the system.
Happy Motoring,
Lou
