W/M Injection Questions

I'm looking at adding a WM injection setup to my 2011 with the N18 engine and it looks like Howerton has stopped carrying the Aquamist components and their tank is out of stock and I don't know if it's coming back into stock.

That being said I was hoping to get some input from other users that have installed kits, I don't think I need to spring for the HFS3 or 4 as I'm not planning on having the car re-tuned to make use of the meth, it's purely for reduced IAT's and higher octane for peace of mind. Where is everyone mounting their tanks at? And depending on size how long do they last before needing to refill?

Car currently has a Manic Stage 2, running on performance Map A for daily use. With the Meth kit I will probably kick it over to Map B for daily and use Map C at the track with 100 octane in the tank.

I'm probably going to go with a basic 3 Bar controller like the offering from HPC and would prefer to use to a trunk mounted tank as I still use my windshield washers. Anyone have suggestions on where to mount the tank and pump?

Has anyone used one of the 2.5-5gal sump tanks with a built in recess for the pump?

I have the Howerton HFS-4 kit with the R56 tank and yes, I don't believe they are making the R56 specific tanks anymore. Dunno if you can still get the HFS-3/4 setups anymore either. You can buy the actual plastic tank they used in their R56 tank assembly here: https://www.usplastic.com/catalog/it...1881&catid=934

I have a friend that runs the Snow kit with their 3 quart tank and likes it, and I think that whole kit ran him somewhere in the $500 range, but I believe it doesn't have the same flow rating as the Howerton kit. He asked me what my kit was good for and when I told him the numbers out of the user manual he said it was way more than the Snow kit but idk specific numbers.

I've also debated buying a tall, thin 5 gallon gas/water tank and installing all the Howerton parts into that but idk if I want to carry 5 gallons of meth in my car.

I've got a 2.25 gallon mounted in the back. Lasts about twice as long as the fuel tank, but that really depends on how you drive and what size nozzle you are using.

From what i have read the best choice for W/M Kit is the AQUAMIST. I'm also thinking of AEM/DevilsOwn but Aquamist think is the best quality/safe option available out there.
So have that in mind before you choose.

Thanks for your input everyone. Glad to see at least the 2.5gal tank fits in the trunk area pretty well, and that I won't have to refill it every time I get gas.

As far as the Aquamist setup goes, I know it's considered the best/safest out there but as I'm not going to be specifically tuning for Meth to make use of the additional octane gain I don't think it's necessary considering the cost. I can get away with a trunk mount kit with braided lines and sumped tank including a basic controller for around ~$700. The Aquamist setup is $893 without lines or tank, so add another $3-400 for that and they're based out of the UK only now so if anything breaks or goes wrong you're looking at shipping back and forth across the pond for warranty stuff. Not sure I want to get into that for what I'll be using it for.

Any idea how long that 3 quart tank lasts him before needing a refill? Trying to judge the range of use for fluid requirements.

He drives like an organ donor so he basically fills up his meth every time he fills up his gas. I'm more conservative so for me it's every 1.5-2 gas fill ups. However a day in the mountains means I'll burn through a whole tank.

Biggest part of the kit is a pump from the USA, I cannot imagine the shipping or tax on any other parts will be of any serious consequence, you are driving an import after all.

Obviously i just wanted to notice that you can have a win-win situation when you can just put it but not PUSH it..You can have both ways if you run lets say on 50%boost and 50% not knocking.

Thought I'd bump this thread back up, I ended up going with the Aquamist setup. My decision was pretty easy once I started reaching out to the various companies asking questions about their products and my proposed use case. 2 didn't respond at all and another responded about 2 weeks later. Not a great start when you're looking to give them money. Richard on the other hand got back to me the next day and was happy to answer any of my questions so it was easy to choose the kit to go with.

Now my next hurdle is where to install the dang thing and run the wires. Where has everyone mounted the controller and ran the wires for these things? I picked up a flexpod for the gauge so that's easy enough, but wiring has never been my fondest thing.

Here's a couple pics of my install ---
This is Howerton's tank, trunk mounted --- too bad you can't get one.

Controller mounted in the glove box, with a couple other gadgets. There's an access hole for wiring behind the battery

For ease in adjusting the controller, I cut up the housing to allow access. A piece of tape covers the hole when it's all adjusted.

For installation, a nice set of instructions was included. Wire routing is pretty much up to the installer. You'll probably need to drill a hole or two (trunk-mounted tank and glove box-mounted controller), but they shouldn't be noticeable, if you're careful. Trunk mounted parts wiring and hose can be zip-tied alongside brake lines and other chassis mounted items. Wires and hoses should be enclosed in their recommended harness wrapper --- not included in the kit, but well worth the minor investment.
