The Stock BPV design is reasonably good. As long as it was assembled correctly and all parts are complete, it'll last a long time. The only aftermarket piece that I've heard of is one that is still based on stock, but uses a metal diaphram assembly bolted to the stock butterfly housing....for a huge amount of money.

To replace the bypass valve, couldn't we use something like a blow-off valve in it's place?

the point of the bypass valve is not to limit boost (like a blowoff valve) but to re-direct it under non-load situations (equated with a vacuum condition upstream of the blower intake, downstream of the throttle body), moderated by the spring

Whoops after drawing a diagram of this on a napkin, I think I've got it

what up DOM!! I have researched this...it's is ofcourse possible...it would not hurt the car...since it is not designed that way some do not like the Idea...but if you want that...you know who to call...I am going to be doing some with him anyway...heh eh...maybe we can do something in the mean time...

Tuls, I think what jlm said makes sense to me now. I diagramed it out on a napkin and figured out this: A blow-off valve opens up when a preset boost pressure is reached. However, with the MCS's SC bypass valve, it stays closed during pressurized (boost) and will open up when low or negative pressure (vacuum) is detected.

JLM,
Your thinking of the waste gate. That limits boost. The BOV releases boost either into the atmosphere, or back into the intake track (like our Bypas) to allow the turbo to keep spinning when the gas pedel is released, like during a shift ect. This allows one to get boost faster during shifts, instead of the turbo stopping because the air has no where to go.
