Drivetrain Alta Lightened Crankshaft Pulley Instructions
Alta Lightened Crankshaft Pulley Instructions
Does anyone know the proper procedures for the installation of Alta's lightweight crankshaft pulley? I recieved mine today with no instructions.I tried calling with no success, i guess everyone is off for Thanksgiving.I would wait until Monday but i need my car before that.My stock pulley is scrap after my belt tensioner broke and slammed into it.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would read this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...nkshaft+pulley
and the links inside it before installing that pulley.

I have read alot on the crankshaft pulley and possible problems due to the lack of a damper.I decided i was going to take a chance with possible engine and component damage, not to mension voiding the warranty, when i installed my 19% pulley,ECU remap, header, exhaust, cold air intake and other H.P. increasing mods. I don't have a problem with being the guinea pig.I am sure the first person with an undersized pulley felt like one to.But i do thank you for the warning.
You may need the bmw tool to remove the stock pulley. Or if you have a standard puller, you need to get some new bolts. I don't remember the thread pitch, but I can get it if you need off of the bmw tool that I have.
All that you should need to to is pull the passenger wheel, and wheel well plastic. Then releave the tensioner pressure with the BMW Tensioner Tool. Remove the belt from the crank pulley. Remove the bolt from the shaft, and then remove the pulley with a removal tool
You then should be able to install the pulley by putting the pulley on lightly (possibally heating it up first.. though not sure if alta would recomend)
Then reinstall the bolt and torque to 115 Nm (There is also a special tool to do this from BMW as well)
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply MiniPilo, and yes please if you could post that info it would be great.I looked at the Mini Mania pulley install directions and decided they won't help. The Mini Mania pulley is a 2 piece assembly. The hub is steel and the outer pulley ring is aluminum. They say throw the steel hub (not the aluminum part) in a 500 degree oven to get it to expand.I am kinda concerned on heating Alta's part being that it is one solid piece of aluminum. After looking at aftermarket pulleys for other cars, alot of them say to put grease in the pulley hole and using the crankshaft nut draw the pulley on.I just don't know at this point. There is virtually no information on this subject concerning Mini Coopers on the net that i could find.
They are M6x1.0 Bolts... you can get them here

Not sure of the length that you need.
You will need 3 of them.

The tensioner broke right above the supercharger pulley and the lower half dropped down and hit the crankshaft pulley. The whole thing was caused by one of the bolts that holds the little shock absorber onto the belt tensioner worked its way loose and fell into the skid pan. i'll post pics of the tensioner and crank pulley tomorrow when i fix the car.
