One step colder on stage 1 manic

Hey all!
So I'm thinking about picking up a set of NGK 1422 spark plugs for my stage 1 mainc r56 with the n18 engine. I hear people talking about manic recommending these spark plugs for the tune but I think they are talking about stage 2. Will I see a power increase if I upgrade to these plugs if I'm only running stage 1 manic?

I'm back to answer my own question if anyone is looking. I noticed an immediate increase in power before I would hear the turbo spool up but I wouldn't feel the car accelerate as much as it should. now with the colder plugs, the car pulls very hard when boosts hits. In fact, if I'm not careful the car will spin all the way through first!

those plugs are not only 1range colder.. they are also gapped tighter

OEM vs 1422 = ~.030 vs .022

*tighter gap holds better spark under boost = more reliable/complete combustion when in boost

I was looking at thes plugs for my stage 1 mini. I run the ngk 95770 now. Will i gain anything with these plugs? Should i be running the 1422s instead of the 95770s?

I’m not an expert, but from what I’ve seen, most tuners these days will tell you to run the 1422’s. They seem to give the best performance with the increase in boost pressure.
I know that mine loves them.

You will not gain performance from these plugs, unless the plugs you are replacing are severely worn. The main purpose to going with these plugs is for engine protection.

What do u mean for engine protection? What will the 1422s protect against? I havent had any issues with the 95770s. Its been about 20k and there starting to idle a lil rough thats y im doin them.

That will depend on what the knock sensor is seeing. If the plugs are a source of knock and the timing is being set back, then you are loosing performance. If a cooler range of plugs allows for more spark advance, then you have gained that performance back.

It is for protection against engine knock, which can destroy an engine. The knock sensor tries to control/prevent knock but it can only do so much. With a high boosted engine the cooler plugs help with this.
