Drivetrain SEMA bling
SEMA bling
Greetings from the luxurios and classy Wild Wild West Hotel and Casino. 2 days down and 2 to go at the Mecca of aftermarket car shows. As usual, there's tons of bling to be had. If chrome is your thing, this is the place. There's also tons of really cool stuff, I'll post some photos when I get back.
Tied for the worst doodadery is 1) the Electro-Charger, an alternator which sometimes puts a little power back into your car (I always wanted that extra .5 horsepower for $1500), and 2) the 12 volt fan supercharger, which must leach tons of power up top.
Taking the we-did-it-'cause-it-was-there-award goes to Evolve Motorsport's Turbo Volvo, which runs the headers back over the top of the motor and places the turbine in front of and to the side of the motor. Cutting and welding is sooo fun.
MINIs are more scarce this year, with a few notable exceptions: the Madness car is outside with its centrifugal supercharger making 265 Horsepower. Some time slips are in order, or better yet a friendly east coast/west coast challenge at the strip with the TurboKompressor car. The prize could be a case of delicious Yards vs. a pacific northwest micro brew.
MINI Mania has a booth showing off Don's street/race car with their new line of bolt-ons. Other than that, it's mostly Coopers covered with chrome-n-fiber cladding.
As always, there are Leno, Andretti, Boddington, and Didier Thies sightings, with the requisite metric tonnage of silicon and face makup. Vegas is all class.

From the pics I've seen, the SPI Power Excel car is there, there's a yellow S with disgusting rims in the "DUB" section and there's also a Cooper limo that actually consists of two cars that have had their backs chopped off and a piece added in between and welded together so that in effect, it has two front ends
I'll put my money on your twincharger
. I think I read somewhere that while centrifigal SC's are the most efficient of the bunch, the lack in creating boost down low is their drawback...
Hey, thanks for sharing! Photos are indeed welcome...

I saw him the night before he left for Las Vegas; Hubie was bringing his twincharged car, tricked out with paint and decals and a separate engine on a stand fitted with his twin kit. He is sharing a booth with another (?) vendor, probably his gauge maker.

I went all round SEMA yesterday, and didn't see the limo MINI. I did see a black classic with a Honda VTEC squeezed in. The sign said it was making 210 horses. Very nice looking car. I'll put some pics up as soon as I get the 150 or so I took off the camera and organized a bit.
It was the 1st time I ever went to SEMA and while there was a number of areas that I just walked through without seeing anything that interested me enough to stop, some areas took a long time to get through. I don't know if I'll go next year, but I enjoyed the day yesterday.

I follow their Grand Am stuff fairly closely, and Tony is very good about keeping us posted on these events, and when they will be on TV (Speed)....
