RMW Turbo kit conversion

This is a ground up build on this customer's car:
RMW stroker pistons with ceramic coating and teflon on the skirts
Mahle Race bearings, ARP 2000 3/8" rod bolts
Checking clearances
drilling the head to accept 12mm head studs
ceramic coatings on valves and chambers
RMW 1.8L billet stroker crank
RMW custom sleeves in to take the pounding
Installing the 1.8L billet crank
lubed and ready for bearing check

all torqued and ready to go
RMW billet rockers
RMW Billet rockers and mechanical cam
that's what 12mm head studs look like.......
piston rings from Mahle Motorsports with anodized top ring for the boost this monster will see
coming together
RMW 27mm exhaust valves and mechanical rocker/cam setup
close up

Always recommend changing all the parts out when installing an OS GIKEN Clutch if you want it to work like butter

and now to rebuilding it
new control arms and all steering parts
looking much better

YOWZA!!!

I am jaw-dropped with an exploded brain and at a total loss for words.

It is truly magnificent to the utmost degree.
The level of precision and attention to detail is indeed mind-blowing --- SERIOUS BUSINESS --- very well done worldclass stuff indeed.

I'm still a noob and have only recently purchased an R53 and just now getting to know things, but when I was doing my research RMW popped up on my radar as being the premier outfit for MINI tuning and now I see why you're so legendary and well-respected.

Proper champion.

Excellent build thread Jan!

I've seen this car in person and the craftsmanship is every bit as good as the pics above suggest, and then some

Please remember, I would like a ride still.....

Just had it over to West End today to get it aligned so we are nearing the end on it
Just need to get it back to finish up the E85 tune and you can have a ride. Might want to bring a diaper........

I've wanted to do that to mine but have heard it causes a CEL and in the state of WA we can't get by the DOL with the CEL. What was the time line on the build Jan? That's beautiful workmanship and what a beast you created.

Ok, first things first. I give props to who ever owns this car and spent this kind of cash on it.

Here is the part everyone isn't going to like, the issues I see in this engine bay. (I'm actually OCD btw)

The power steering bottle is just jammed against the brake booster.

The positive jump terminal is just hanging unsecured

The coolant lines to the bottle are almost touching the down pipe which is unwrapped along with the turbine housing and header that are shown glowing red hot in one of the his pics. (also the ABS module and brake lines are unprotected from this heat)

Turbo oil feed line is actually touching (or really really close) to the cowl panel and unprotected from the heat.

A Jet-Hot style coating is not good protection against severe radiant heat.

Open breather filter and PCV valve with a filter on it. (creating crankcase vacuum is needed for optimal ring seal)

I'm guessing this engine bay is incomplete and there was still more work to be done after this pic?

sometimes pictures are misleading, especially when you haven't seen it up close

the power steering pump isn't touching anything except the custom mount that's made for it

the battery terminal is totally secured, doesn't move a lick

having the PCV open to atmosphere along with the one that goes to the intake has nothing to do with the rings sealing (we have made over 750whp already without issues and the Chrysler engineer who made the engine agrees with me) Ask me why? I know him personally since he came out to my shop to see everything I had made for these engines. He has purchased all of my parts for his own personal engine which he just finished building. I've redesigned much of the engine which after 12yrs of people telling me I was wrong are now doing just what I said to do 12yrs ago.......... let that sink in
As you have probably figured out by now, I rarely listen to people on the internet because if I did we would never be where we are today with the platform

not sure why you can't see the fire sheath on everything anywhere close to hot parts which are 100% ceramic coated. Not one bit of melting on any of the hoses.......ZERO
The only reason it was glowing red was because I was doing high load cell tuning on pump gas for multi minutes. The ceramic is fantastic compared to wraps I have used

The highest quality race parts have been used on everything.....if you want to see OCD, hang out with me for awhile
There are 2 things that aren't finished on the car...........special custom made DCI shielding for the brake lines and valve cover

and changing the fuel hose from the extra inline fuel filter to fuel rail. It's what I had in the shop at the time and wanted to get it on the dyno for testing without having to wait.

I've spent 3yrs on developing this kit, every single thing in it to make 600whp as reliably as it possibly can be done. This car will be daily driveable.........let that sink in for a moment
Imagine daily driving a car that is 333hp per liter capable on a base engine designed for 110hp......

The fuel system is 100% custom, I've spent more $$$ on developing a fuel system capable of this power than some have spent on their cars. It's a full flex fuel system with dual pumps, custom pickups and hydramat to keep it from fuel starvation in high speed turns. I have built a plug N play harness that plugs into the ecu to monitor the essentials, fuel pressure, fuel temp, ethanol content, oil pressure/temp etc. You can run anything from 91 pump to 100% ethanol. The ecu will automatically adjust power and boost to the ethanol content in the tank.

I've got more sensors and safety features in the car to help the owner realize something is not right before it's too late. Some features will shut it down if we have certain issues without any input from the driver. "big brother" is watching..

We have come a long ways since 2002 with these cars and we aren't done yet!
Regardless, have fun with your Mini and if you think you can do better...........make it and put it up to the test of racing....... I love a challenge

yes sir
ecu has boost by gear, boost by ethanol % and traction control by gear too. It's going to take some track time to iron it all out, may have to turn it down quite a bit in the lower gears

honestly I don't have much time for free time as I do all of the engineering, run the business etc and sometimes wrench. My hours at the shop vary all the time. There was a few months were my shortest week was 80hrs and the longest was 122hrs.......joys of running your own business. Too many things on my plate as I move forward, as I have other makes/models of cars asking me to do projects for their brand. Some day it would be nice to have some interns but I just don't have enough time on my hands to train them
