Mods & Warranty?

I am curious to see how many of you MINIacs have voided their warranty by bolting on a pulley or other mods, I was wanting a pulley bad for my week old MCS but after reading on here and talking to the dealership about my warranty being voided I have since backed off

It doesn't really void the warranty. They would have to find some causality between a particular mod and a particular failure (e.g., if the power windows fail, it would be hard to blame the pulley). That said, apparently some dealers are more creative in finding causality than others and more inclined to to try to do so.

Check with your SA. Many dealers don't have a problem with Pulley, CAI and Exhaust. The do frown on ecu mods.

Thanks for the replys, I had spoke to my salesman today from Flow and he said it does void waranty but I guess I need to talk to some of the MINIacs around here such as MOORLOCKX to find out if they have had any problems with warranty work after modding

warranty issues

I've had my car in for regular service a couple of times. The fact that I have a 15% reduction pulley and an alta intake system has never been a problem. My car gets service and no hassels. I know that is different than needing warranty work but I just want to point out that your service isn't going away because of modifications. I had the 15% pulley installed at Helix, they do pro work so no worries there. I started doing modifications at 3000 miles, I've now driven over 28000 reliable miles. It drives better than the car I purchased from BMW. Knock on wood. My warranty will be over in 10000 miles, that is less than a year for me. If your car has less than 7000 miles geico offers mechanical coverage with their policy for $30 a year.
The deductible is $500, that's what I have in case of catastrophi.
Look at how many here have reduced pullies and no problems.
You may want to find a dealer that does pulley instalations, You have to find a way to get a reduced pulley. Drive a reduced pulley equipped mcs, you'll want one. Good luck.

After all the responses I think I have been talked back into it

Warranty expires at 50000 miles.

I now have been modded over 46k miles. I currently have 56k+ miles on the odometer. No mod-related problems. Plenty of work was needed during my warranty miles and my dealer never denied warranty coverage - even when my MINI overheated or my clutch had a mechanical problem.

Warranty

Ah yes, you are right greatgro. My free service on an 03 mcs is 3 yrs. or 36000 miles. I'm up to 28400 miles so there is 7600 miles left on the free maintainance, that's what I meant to say. The good news is that our compadre Kendel72 is now sure he's going for a reduccion pulley. Go Kendel72, you'll be glad.
