OK...here is another question....when you said you pull the car to the redline, do floor the pedal or just pushing until redline? I want to know how agressive you do when you're pushing to the redline...oh one more thing...how come my redline is one line before 7000. Is there a way to increase the redline?

I did ocationally floor the pedal down, but shift the gear at 5500-6000 rpm.

MSFITOY,

That's a nice looking gadget!

I love the sequential shift light on the Gtech. As far as redline...I stomp the pedal to the metal...er...plastic

My wife and I both shift around 6k+. After all it is not the highest winding motor around, but 6000 to 6700 is resonable. And no, I don't need no stinking light. If you need a light to know when to shift get a CVT. The ramblings of an old man.

i change gear when my girlfriend - the grumpy bloody cow nags me "change gear" .. because she gets stressed out and all if I'm not changing, or if my car is rolling back at a stop sign, or if i'm going to slow or too fast, or if my music is too loud, or if my a/c is too cold.... nag nag nag. I should put her on the roof next time.

Here's a hint and tip. If your boyfriend or girlfriend whines in your car, get another boyfriend or girlfriend. If it's a husband or wife, get another car.....

Puttering around town, I shift around 3-3.5k. If I have a short distance to let the MINI stretch its legs, shifts climb to around 5k. If no one is ahead of me, I shift at 6-6.5k (catching wheelspin in 1st-3rd gears - see other thread). I avg. 19-20 mpg daily driving.

Interesting. Grumpy? Nagging? Sounds like someone needs a nap.

She doesn't like high rpm noise? Tell her the MINI is designed for that kind of use right up to redline. Don't try that with your other cars unless it's a VTEC engine or a Honda S2000.

Too slow or too fast? Yikes! Is she in law enforcement?

Music too loud or AC too cold? Just wrap her up in a cocoon before she gets in and give her some headphones with some sleepy time musac playing.
A valium or two would not hurt most likely.

(Just kidding of course)
Hey my son says his young 13 year old ears are injured when I play my music too loud (not even to distortion- but that is biased by my high range damaged hearing). What?

Seems to me shifting has everything to do with how fast you want to go, where you are, and purpose for driving. Cruising down the road looking for good mpg then shift sooner 2.5k-3.5k, I find myself skipping gears (particularly 5th) when I can. If your are looking for performance I have found around 6.2k seems to work well.
IMHO Shifting at red line will result in slower acceleration as opposed to well placed shifts before peak hp drops off

Since the torque band STARTS somewhere around 4000 RPM ,I usually go a minimum of 5000,since my experience tells me that most shifts will drop somewhere in the 1000 RPM range. That keeps the car in the torque band most of the time.I also put the hammer down most of the time ,especially on on-ramps.And lastly ,yes, sadly, I must also modify the above when the enforcer is in the car .So my answer is: car stays around 4000-5000 most of the time, with DSC off ,unless weather indicates otherwise, or I have reached my 78 mph highway cruising speed in 6th,in which case it's around 3300. There goes the saying, "If it's too loud, you're too old!"

Generally between 3,500 and 4,500 for me, depending on how... ummm.. "spirited" I'm feeling. I will wind it out to above 6,000 if I'm pushing on, of course.

For the first year, I tended to shift around 3,000 rpm; for the last year, I'd say it was closer to 4,000 - 4,500 in everyday driving unless I'm just puttering around town.

MINI shifting (Cooper)

For my MINI Cooper, I try not to shift below 3500 rpm. If I really want to wind the car out, 4800 - 5500 is the rule, but I don't do that all that often. The car definitely runs better at higher rpms, especially with my intake and exhaust...

gear change rpm's

@ 2800-3200 however I do stomp on it to 6500-6900 just about everyday at one point or another. My favorate however is shifting from 6th to 4th at about 70mph and flooring it to 110-120mph. The car is a lot of fun, my aprilia sat in the garage this summer.

03 mcs
15%, mth, alta intake, milltek catback, kosei k1, falken ziex 512
Loving it.

Depends,Mostly 2500-redline.I like to change it up.Some times I cruise at 5000 in third, run up to bounce in 2nd,fun, then hold just below, and twist around ,or motor along in 4th,at 40 mph.
It's all good

When I drive my CVT MINI in manual mode for spirited driving, I generally like to up-shift at 4k and down-shift at 3k.

Everyday driving for me = 3,500-4,500 rpm

Spirited driving for me = 6,500-7,400 rpm

Haha, I used to drive a Golf and absolutely hated that little yellow arrow. Like it knew better than me. So I ignored it. I just tended to listen to the engine.

I was wondering about the shifting because I've found that lately I'm shifting at higher rpms than I used to (when it was new about 3 weeks ago). What I find is that I can rarely get fast enough (without risking a ticket pronto) to even know what the high range of a gear is.

I've also been playing with the OBC and watching my mpg change. But I didn't get it for it's economy.

Oh Danny Boy!!!

What kind of black box (ECU) magic have you been up to to get 7,400 rpms out of your MCS?
