BTW,I got busted by my better half last night. I have been real sly about stashing away money in a hidden account, you know...MINI money. Well, she asked for one of my credit cards last night..."yah, sure grab it, it's in my wallet." I totally forgot that there was a couple $100. bills behind the credit cards waiting to be stashed away with the others. Oh crap! "I'm saving for your birthday present honey!" Looks like I'm dishing out for her birthday now!
I set-up a play account (for the MINI and other automotive projects) at my credit union. With direct deposit, I have my employer put a fixed, relatively small amount in there every two weeks. Works like a charm
.
.
At least in my case, my wife knows of the account, but likes the control factor of a fixed amount, as do I. Sort of like going to Vegas bringing only what you don't mind losing
.
We also have such an account for the house/land projects, one for vacations, and one that contributes to a Roth IRA, all receiving automatic fixed figures. As compensation increases, funding increases into each, with the exception of the Roth IRA which is already being maxed...
With my MINI approaching "completion" in the next year or so, I'm already eye-balling my next automotive project, a Caterham 7. Selling the dune buggy and Aquila kit car to make it happen. The MINI is part of the family - she stays! Sort of took this thread off course...

Tony, I am interested in what all you did to lighten up the car. I did see it in person, and I really want to know what you did to the back of the car in detail if you dont mind sharing. Is there anything else (other than removing the old battery and battery box) you did to help contribute to losing the weight? About how much weight have you saved in the process?
I'm down 155 pounds now. When I install the Wilwood race kit (brakes) sitting on my floor, I'll shed another 6 to 7 pounds per front corner, so I was told. A good portion of that should be at the rotor (rotating mass) . I'm going to weigh them tonight to see. This should get me near minus 170. And since some aftermkt seats can save me like 15lbs each, 200 will be easy to achieve. A lightened flywheel will save another 15 or so pounds. After that, I don't see anymore "big" weight-reductions for her...
To your question about the rear, the rear seats, belts and hardware was like 47 pounds total. They SLA battery saved me 20 pounds. The battery box another 7 pounds. And my custom straight exhaust is like 30 pounds less than stock. My 10.75lb Volk wheels helped immensely as well...
This twincharged system is really exciting! I really can't wait to hear reports on how well it performs, like at the drag strip. If it can get the power down fairly well, I'll be interested alright. From what Randy has shared about his 240 or so hp, he's starting to feel that much more might not be so easy to control, and/or be usable. That concerns me as I don't want excessive power if it can't be utilized, and also, what I would fear most is loss of drive-ability.
Knowing that I can achieve my 10:1 weight to hp ratio (2,400lbs & 240bhp) fairly easily from here, without a SC swap or turbo addition is appealing. Yet, knowing that I can get into the single digits with this twincharger is very tempting also. The practicality of having such power will need to prove itself to me. I might set a new goal, like 9:1 (2,400lbs & 265bhp). I guess that 265 is at the wheels
. As always, time will tell.
The Caterham 7 I mentioned should have 5:1 weight to hp ratio
. Maybe i'll just be content with hitting 10 on the MCS, then direct my time, energy and funds into the Cat...
